Can u imagine any of this happening in New England? As much as I hate that team, I do admire its sense of professionalism and the focus on the task at hand which is NEVER more than the upcoming game. Ist round pick Jamie Collins couldn't see the lite and he gets shipped to Cleveland...Bell and even others (AB at times) are more about themselves and not about the TEAM. Bell is critical to the offense but not at the cost of showing up late to meetings, etc.

Seems to me you want to hire a coach that has the appropriate blend of both approaches, like a fine medium roast coffee.

Medium Roast coffee sucks.

Life is too short to do anything half-assed. Moderation is for losers.

IF this doesn’t make every fan here and beyond angry and pissed that we have a lazy players coach who doesn’t value discipline in the ranks from all subordinates......we ain’t winning shit!!! PERIOD

A. Fire Tomlin
B. EMR makes Tomlin or decrees a series of demands if he wants a paycheck
C. Fire Tomlin
D. FIRE TOMLIN

Coughlin is the #1 reason for Jax impressive team and attention to detail. Marrone is a good match for that team and Buffalo is just stupid

Can't trade him unless he signs something.

According to the rules, can you work out a conditional trade agreement (maybe with some middle-of-the-pack/bottom feeder team in the NFC), get him to agree to it, franchise him, and then do the deal? Or would that violate the rules. Just asking.

Thing is, we CAN franchise him. And then, we have the power to give him a choice between play for us…and sit out the season. So, we would have leverage. Right?

Until he signs the tender, he's not under contract for you to do anything.

If you really wanted to send a message, when he plays his game of not signing the tender and sitting out, you just yank and "don't let the door hit you in the ass". At that point, very few teams have the money to sign him (and not anyone good that he'd want to play for).

Now just left knowing what I thought I’ve known for a couple years now. And it stinks because it makes it almost impossible to get excited about this team.
One of the most talented offenses in Steelers history has been wasted and a multitude of high draft picks thrown at the defense has delivered nothing but garbage.

Exactly right....as we KNOW this team will never win another Super Bowl with this guy as Head Coach. And....we also know his job is safer than the Pope's.

Right or wrong
Certainly seems to me that someone is periodically leaking stories to embarrass Tomlin and/or bell.
Maybe one of the disgruntled investors ?

Or, Bell is just a moron and Tomlin will fail in the postseason.

Either way, looks like neither will learn from their previous mistakes, although Tomlin may reel some of these antics in a bit, the jury is still out on that one. Wouldn’t bet on it tho.

Bell might play for us one more year than who cares what he does, as for Tomlin, us fans are stuck with the guy.

Lot of bed wetters on this thread.

Bell is over a barrel. If he wants to play and wants money he will be playing for the PS next year. He will be franchised, he will skip training camp and sign the FT tender at the last minute like last season. He will gamble again that he doesn’t get hurt. He will be getting a $14MM contract. That is the worst case scenario.

Best case scenario we sign him to a 3yr 36ish deal. Either way he is on the black and gold. I suppose we could UnRestict FA him and get 2 first round draft picks the following season as another option too.

Discipline is not the Steelers problem. It is strategic decision making during the week to attack the opposing team, and strategic in game adjustments. Putting together a great game plan that attack’s the weakness of the opponent and being able to adjust to the unforeseen and/or their in game adjustments. Putting together a complete story with the offensive and defensive playbooks is also lacking from week to week. That is what is missing; not discipline. If discipline was an issue, you would not have the offensive execution. Sure it could improve, but it is not in the top 10 things the PS need to address.

Belichick would NEVER pay that much money for a single fucking RB

Look at the guys who he has used over the years --

Dion Lewis? Rex Burkhead? James White?

trash heap guys

We are wasting too much money at the RB position

I don't see Lewis or Burkhead as trash heap guys. Well, I guess you could call Cleveland and Cincinnati trash heaps...nevermind.

You really can't use NE and Belicheat as a comparison. He's had a long tree of assistants that basically haven't done shit anywhere, on any level. Yet somehow they just keep plugging and playing guys in all 22 positions, including QB, and barely skipping a beat.

Talking shit is hardly lack of discipline. I always took it from the Dungy interview that MT was trying a different tack. It worked except for the fucking JJ bullshit call.

These are nice click bait articles that would have been spun as swagger articles had they won.

I think they are signs of areas that could be cleaned up or a different course could be taken. It was a concerted effort by Tomlin in my estimation, to get the players to a different mental state to believe they could beat NE and not hope. His teams have always been pretty good about parroting his messaging, and MT’s strength has always been his communication, motivation and branding. Strategy fucked them in Jax game!

You know what would work better to instill confidence in players rather than puffing them up?

Actually having them...you know...PREPARED for their matchup, and benching them when they continually fuck up.

And being prepared yourself as a coach, and oh...in that big game? Not suddenly playing scared with an eight point lead and try and sit on the ball for an ENTIRE FUCKING QUARTER.

Stop it with his strength is branding and communication
It is bullshit rhetoric that holds no value except a short term diversion from the absence of substance
And the team I saw against jax - other than a handful of players on offense -- and in the pats playoff game last Year were not motivated teams. They reminded me more of a Marvinb Lewis ochoconco paper tiger bengals team that hops around and folds after the first punch

It should also be noted that the lack of discipline isn't just this year.

Other guys have taken advantage of Tomlin's lackadaisical approach in the past. Coates comes to mind, as does BR's comments after the loss to Dallas where he said the team lacked discipline. It's not just this forum that highlights failures in reigning in prima donnas and players that think because they are the steelers with AB/BR/Bell, they will win.

Looking at the clusterfuck after the overturned James TD catch against the Pats should tell you all you need to know.
