Unfortunate, but among the least of our problems.

YUP.
cant see a team signing him.
Looks like his best shot at playing in 2018 will be getting to camp with the Steelers

Have to view him as 5th WR/ Punt returner at best

As always............WR is in play in the draft.
On top of Knowing Bryant is a strike away and going into his walk year.
DHB should not be on the roster next year.

Granted, the track record at drafting a returner SUCKS. Maybe that's really an argument to get Ayers.

But we CANNOT continue to ignore how important it is, particularly punt returner. Yes, one play CAN be the difference in advancing in the playoffs, or even making the playoffs. The coaching staff clearly doesn't embrace that, if you will.

On the other hand, it doesn't matter if your defense rarely forces the other team to punt...

Ok, Ayers is never going to be an NFL player. Eli isn’t either. Go look at the draft for this role. I like Deshaun Hamilton from Penn State later in the draft.

Just hate hate hate to spend draft picks on role players on offense right now. Hate it.

Couldn't agree more, maybe they can find a cheap vet to fill that role.

Kendall Wright finally woke up in CHI this year. He would do nicely and probably not cost too much.

we spent a 3rd and a 4th on offensive role players last year-- and that doesn't even account for a long snapper. Think we could have filled those spots with guys off the street and used those picks on defense?

And can someone please explain to me the infatuation with DeMarcus Ayers? The guy is not an NFL talent...not even bottom of the roster NFL talent. Not as a WR...not as a kick returner...not as a ball deflator.

Never draft a kicker, punter or long snapper. Can't believe Colbert has been doing it this long and doesn't know that (of course, it seems he's an equal with at least Tomlin, and usually the OC or DC to make it a 3-person decision).

It's really disappointing we have basically nothing in the return game, and haven't for years. ST and turnovers have literally carried teams to 11-12 wins and the playoffs before. Those teams are pretenders, but that's how much of a difference it can make.

Imagine this is great news for DHB.

DHB will have a 6 year contract extension by this time tomorrow

WR in this draft should be Dante Pettis from Univ of Washington.

Perfect slot receiver, small stride quick dude.

He also just broke the NCAA record for Punt Return TD this year, uncanny ability in the return game.

Fills 2 needs on offense, every other pick should be on Defense (provided Bell gets done)

Seriously? Our defense was abused by no name QBs all year, including Kizer, and they were abused on the run more often than not. This draft should be almost all D. It's an embarrassment right now.

Well, he looked very good with the Steelers in the small amount of opportunities he had.

I guess you're right, he hasn't caught on anywhere but I loved what I saw from that kid 2 seasons ago.

If we have 7 picks, 5 of 'em will be defensive players.

Maybe more.

We could have 25 picks and use them all on defense, and I'd still be concerned.

Something has gone wrong in the draft process on the defensive side of the ball...whether it's the metrics they're using to pick players, or the coaching up these players are receiving, we have struck out on an inordinate number of defensive picks...and that's even discounting Golson who flamed out without ever taking a regular season snap due to injury.

They re-signed Justin Thomas who by all means looked the part in camp/preseason last year. Could be an opening for him. Also Tucker has been hanging around as a practice squad player for a few years. Perhaps either can step right in and contribute. Although with Mann retiring I guess we'll see just how well the WR corps develops without his tutelage. My pick Deontay Burnett USC. Likely a higher pick with limited picks in this draft. Tough decisions. Perhaps a FA or UDFA later could fill that slot WR position?

Ehhh, couldn't draft OL for years and years....then they brought in Munchak and suddenly we're letting quality guys go to FA because we don't have a spot for them.

Like people have been saying, Porter and Lake haven't developed a single player. Not one. Here's the list of quality defensive players drafted/developed under Tomlin:
Timmons
Woodley (for a few years)
Worilds (for a few years)
Heyward
Probably Watt, Hargrave and Tuitt
Shazier (sadly, for a few years)

Did I miss anyone? Maybe 8 quality starters AFTER 11 YEARS!?!

Colbert has a track record of hitting on picks pretty much everywhere. I don't think he's the one to blame for that sad list above.
