Make it the 49ers... They were apparently runner-up in the Marcus Peters deal, and they recently traded away Rashard Robinson.

Jaguars are giving QB Blake Bortles a new three-year, $54 million deal, worth up to $66.5M with incentives, that includes $26.5M guaranteed, tying him to Jacksonville through the 2020 season, per source.

This is excellent news for the Steelers. I know that the Jags beat the Steelers 2x w Bortles last year, but I sure as hell didn't want them getting better at QB.

Fantastic news about Bortles. Agreed. If the Jags had gotten a QB, they would have been the SB favorite IMO.

This will be especially good news for teams like the Steelers that desperately need some cap relief. Could exceed $179Mil.... http://nfltraderumors.co/2018-salary-ca ... ceed-179m/

No trades. Vaccaro could be available. Hmmm.... http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/20 ... gency.html

Chiefs are expected to trade CB Marcus Peters to the Los Angeles Rams, sources tell ESPN. Teams are in final stages of talks and barring an unexpected snag, the trade is expected to be agreed to as early as today.

Curious to see what they gave up for him.
Rams don’t have a 2nd round pick because of the Sammy Watkins trade.

Chiefs net 2nd, 4th-round picks for Marcus Peters.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday the Chiefs will ship Peters westward in exchange for a 2018 fourth-round pick and a 2019 second-round selection, per sources informed of the situation.

Lots of FA Safety news hitting the wire this recently.....hmmm

Jason La Canfora writes the Redskins are "trying to see what they get" for S Su'a Cravens, who hasn't played since 2016.
Related: Su'a Cravens

Chiefs released FS Ron Parker.
The move saves nearly $5 million in cap room. The Chiefs' defensive makeover continues after last week's Marcus Peters trade and public announcement longtime ILB Derrick Johnson would not return. Parker, who turns 31 before the season, struggled mightily in both run support and pass coverage last season, grading out 86th among 89 qualified safeties in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

Free agent SS T.J. Ward is not expected back with the Buccaneers.
Ward struggled with injuries and performance in his lone year with Tampa, and he was arrested for marijuana possession immediately after the season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says Ward will have "a strong market," but we'll believe it when we see it. Ward flopped on a one-year, $4 million deal and figures to command less than that after a forgettable season. Ward turned 31 in February.

Bears released S Quintin Demps.
Signed to a "three-year, $13.5 million" contract last March, Demps played only three games before landing on injured reserve with a broken arm. His release creates $3.26 million in cap space. Going on 33, Demps will be hunting for his fourth team in six years in free agency.

Panthers released S Kurt Coleman.
The move clears $2.65 million in cap space and leaves behind $2.5 million in dead money. Signed as a flier in 2015, Coleman ended up having a career year. He remained a starter the past two seasons, but his play steadily declined. The ex-Chief and Eagle turns 30 in April. He battled some knee issues in 2017. If nothing else, Coleman will be viewed as a potential snap hog on the open market.

New Orleans Times-Picayune's Larry Holder reports Saints DB Kenny Vaccaro is "likely on his way out" of New Orleans.
Vaccaro had his 2017 season ended early after being placed on injured reserve due to problems with his groin and wrist. The former first-round pick is now an unrestricted free agent and will likely sign a fairly big contract in free agency. The Cowboys were a team rumored to be interested in acquiring Vaccaro in the past.

It would have taken me 5 seconds to sign that deal. You would LOVE to get a guy like Peters for an R2, and it's next year so you'd still have your R1 and R2 this year for defense.

And I'm not saying KC would send him to an AFC contender (I wouldn't), but maybe we had too many headcases in the locker room already.

Wonder if the Steelers would be interested in this guy as an OLB back up to take Moats spot?

Kenny Vaccaro hoped the New Orleans Saints would offer him a contract extension before he became a free agent this year. But, with two weeks remaining before free agency begins, the Saints aren't planning on re-signing their 2013 first-round pick, according to multiple sources at the NFL combine in Indianapolis. http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/20 ... thy_e.html
Hmmm.... ain't gotta trade no one just gotta come up with some legitimate scratch [in a cap challenged season] for this guy. I'd certainly touch bases with dudes agent. Get a ballpark figure and see what I could do.

I'd be interested in Stewart as a #2 RB.

I'd be thrilled if they could land an Avery Williamson or Zach Brown type player, but are they willing to spend that money to get it done? Something has to get done with Shazier's contract too. They have to get creative to reduce that cap hit.

Saw an article yesterday stating Shazier will not play in 2018. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/stee ... y-in-2018/
Don't know how that affects the cap for this year. Anyone have any insight?

Kevin Colbert says, “Ryan Shazier won’t play in 2018.” Says he’ll be a part of the #Steelers, but there will be some sort of designation for him.

I know, I know where they gonna get the scratch to sign these FA's. Love to see them bring in Poe and add him to the DLine rotation. :geek:

Yes it is DP.

Tough sledding for Gruden. I'm sure a few other new head coaches can relate. Gonna be a lot of turnover as new regimes establish themselves. May find some decent FA talent out there this year as a result.

Quote:
“We’re not allowed to have any contact with these guys in March, either. Not until April 9,” Gruden said. “And we’ve got to make some very difficult decisions on who we keep, whose contracts we restructure, and we’re making a lot of those decisions without having met these guys. And that’s tough. It’s really disappointing to have to make some tough decisions without having met some of these guys.”

Foolish if he signs with Denver... they are a mess. OL a shambles, receiving targets are suspect, defense is about to lose at least one of its outlier good CBs, they already lost the two guys in the middle of what was once an excellent defense, and the coaching staff seems to be poor. Guess it's all about the $$$ if he does that.

The more I think about it, the more I believe they need to trade Bell. He's the guy that has some value, and might be gone after this year.

Because Colbert has usually done well in R1 and R2, but they've rarely gone into a draft so desperate at 3 positions, all on defense. If Bell and his money can get you two solid defensive guys (for a year, cap-wise anyway), and maybe you somehow sign Hyde... Then the draft is pretty wide open.

I've been looking at the IBL FA market and I think Todd Davis, ILB with the Broncos might be the best option to fill Shazier's role. Who knows if Shazier will be able to play in 2019 (kind of doubt it), but Davis is a smart choice because he's 25, just starting to blossom and is trending to be very good in the next year or two. I'm guessing he could be had for maybe 4 years, $18 mill with $6-8 guaranteed. If Shazier somehow miraculously comes back at full strength in two years then a guy like Davis with probably not too much G $ is a smart short term play, imo. Hopefully the PS see it the same way. I know they'll do something before the draft to fill that spot, KC always does.
