I saw a guy in YouTube (can’t find the vid at the moment...I’ll,look in my history) that made a very convincing argument that Belichick threw the Super Bowl by not starting Butler and effectively leaving all the coaching to his assistants.

this would align with the BB i will show it to Kraft angle too. How dare you tell me who can play on my team. The team discontent story was as real as it gets. I am sure Bill has a few more Kraft Scotch plays to dole out this year too.

Here you go. Apparently, no lawyers were involved this time.

They had to do this, because everyone knew what J. James did against the Pats was a catch, and they knew they couldn't say it wasn't if it happened again. You can't fool viewers' own eyes and they finally realized it.

lmao.....OOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRR did they just introduce the new standard of "3 feet down"? What constitutes a 3rd step, flexing of the quad or another toe tap?

Does this mean that sideline toe-tapping is not a catch, since the third action arguably cannot be completed?

Yep...and as Zeke pointed out...what about toe-tapping along the sideline?

I was kind of joking, but re-reading it again, you guys may be right.

They just can't help themselves - had to put in "OR the ability to make a football move", which basically just allows them to say it's not a catch but they're going to rule that, anyway.

I'm so glad to see that THIS YEAR reaching forward with the football will be a football move.

Why can't they just say two feet down + possession. Let possession be undefined. I think everyone knows subjectively what is possession. On review, the standard of review would be that if 9/10 people would disagree with it being possession, then no possession. Allow some judgment. We do, e.g., for passing interference, but we can't for a catch?

I think that's the intent of #3, but like I said that COULD be interpreted in any number of ways in order to perpetuate the bullshit we've seen.

In other words, they've gone the other direction where now we have the very real possibility of plays being ruled a catch that everyone knows is not a catch.

I mean, WTF is #3? He didn't make a football move, but in the ref's opinion he could have?!?

totally agree. As Bert Emmanuel said, "if they do not have control of the ball they are not reaching for more yardage."

A catch is like obscenity.

I cannot define it but I know it when I see it.

It's about time on the "going to the ground" piece but...

"And we'll go back to the old replay standard of reverse the call on the field only when it's indisputable."

Huh????? when did that change? That was always supposed to be the standard but this past year they decided to effectively start from scratch on each reply. They didn't announce it because they knew there would be backlash as any fool knows that will take a lot longer and slow things down.

While I doubt it will happen I wish they'd add a time limit on the decision and stick to it - something like 90 seconds after the review starts the screens automatically turns off and you decide either yes it was clearly wrong or it doesn't get overturned.

It won't matter, a situation will arise that hasn't yet, and throw the whole thing back into turmoil. the ONLY SOLUTION is to make a catch a non-reviewable judgment call, but we know they won't do that.

Whizzer White was a great football player. Might have been a good ref. Who knows?
