With every year that passes I grow further from the game I once loved.

In a way this move would create extra draft picks for the Steelers,
As we would not have to watse draft picks on punters, long snappers and tiny kick returners

Sepulveda, Holba, Archer, Rainey

Yup.

Pretty soon it will be 50 minutes of referees explaining flags and 8 minutes of referees consulting with Al Riveron in NY and 2 minutes of actual football action that counts. Not only are they taking from the game, they also add more and more new rules to cause more flags every year.

The new football league that Polamalu is part of already announced that they aren't going to have kickoffs. Anyways, it almost seemed like 75% of kick returns seemed to be called back by a hold or block in the back anyways.

Myself, I'm pretty much done with being a big fan of football in general, I hate it just because of all the replay reviews. I'm not a football fan anymore, just a fan of the Steelers and Pitt, I will watch only the games of those 2 teams and that's it. Sorry, the sport sucks.

Watching the NFL, for me, is what I imagine it's like being stuck in a loveless marriage.

I just want us to go back to the way things used to be...when we were happy.

I assume after scores teams would just take the ball at their 25 (wonder if they would still allow onside kicks?).

On punts I assume you just put a guy back to fair catch - which means you get a guy who just kicks the crap out of the ball with no concern of a big return because of no hang time.

This new league says for an onside kick, instead you can take a 4th and 10 from your own 35.

Wow....Ben with our current offense would probably convert that at least 25% of the time.....or like 10X the conversion rate on an expected onside kick.

Come to think of it eliminating the kickoff and punt will cost jobs. I remember as a kid, some of the first times I got to play was on the kickoff team. Pffft! GONE! Special teams aces and KR specialists will no longer be needed.

Wow, that's a really interesting observation.

Makes you wonder if, in a new CBA compromise, rosters get reduced so BOTH the owners and players get a bigger piece of the pie.

KR and PR are exciting back in the days and I hate the new KO system. The game is a very poor excuse of what it used to be.

Maybe they should have a tip-off at the 50 yard line.

I don't think it is a good idea at all and the players would never go for it.

If special teams as we know it disappear then there is no need for players like say a Matthew Slater, a Steve Tasker, a Devin Hester or even a Kendall Gammons, Mike Schneck or Greg Warren.

They already protect the player long snapping but if there are no punt returns at all, does it matter who snaps the ball? If they still have extra points and FGs does it matter who snaps the ball if they make it clinical, meaning they put out just the long snapper, holder and kicker with nobody else? In a no pressure situation like that will anybody want to watch that?

If special teams was eliminated then the deciding factor of who makes a team is dependent solely on your ability to play either offense or defense.

I wish the NFL and the commish would just stop already. Every year they keep tinkering with and ruining the game. They can't help themselves it is like a sickness.

I don't think they'll eliminate the FG or XP...it's the high-speed collisions "unique" to kick and punt returns they want to prevent.

That will still make a lot of your 3rd string, special team specialists obsolete. No idea how the player's union will react. Like I said, I think the trade-off will be "55% divided by 48 players is more per player than you get now".

The NFL is fucking up the game. Too many rules that go against the spirit of what football is supposed to be.
If you’re tired of the NFL product, turn it off and treat yourself to the NCAA. If you are really tired of the bullshit, say hello to Friday night lights.
Will you see the freak, superstar athlete? Probably not. But you will see the game in it’s simple, pure form. The way the game is meant to be played.
Trust me...go to a high school football game. Commit yourself too it. I guarantee that you will enjoy it far beyond the Sunday crap that Goodell and the owners want to shove down our throat.

This is why there is an opening for something like the XFL right now. As long as they realize that it's about how the game is played and the rules, and not about standing for the anthem.
