1989 was worse, outscored 91-10 in the 1st 2 games. Probably Chuck Noll's best year coaching. I don't think Tomlin has it in him but you never know.

1989. The year we were all introduced to Bubby's mom.

One dropped pass from the AFCCG.

Apples and oranges. Much more talent on this team.

I don't know. I've seen this defense, without Shazier, unable to get critical stops against JAX and KC. I think we're looking at at least another 5-6 shootouts the rest of the year, and probably lucky to win 2 of those.

I don't think there's an offense in history that can win many shootouts with this defense. Not giving up 45+.

Won't be a problem turning it around. Just score 51 points a game. Boom.

It was one of my favorite seasons. My dad bet Minnesota in week 3, I kept running outside when Pittsburgh would score until he screamed at me to shut the fuck up. Memories of a great childhood.

The problem is they're either gonna need to fix the defense or go against the grain on offense and just unleash the passing game from kickoff on.

I can't see them doing either but who knows?

It’s a good point about the O.

I see two reasons to be relatively optimistic.

One is shit will happen to every team. Nobody gets through unscathed. No team is going to cakewalk all the way to a championship. The corollary is the Steelers bad run can’t last forever.

Second the offense needs to lead. They only ever open up their game when it’s too late. They need to come out gunning, not trading punts. They need to play like they will lose if they don’t score every possession. They need that kind of urgency and leadership.

I keep thinking 2002 with Tim Lewis as DC. Old tried scheme that got eaten alive by passing teams.

Sure their bad run can last a while.

Think of how many games they won last year in the last minute or so of play. That actually was mean-busting in and of itself.

There is a special place in my heart for that 1989 team.

I was at the 51-0 loss to the Browns, it was like 85 degrees and a light rain all day.

I'd be shocked at a 3 win season. The worst this team has done since 1-13 during Noll's 1st year is 5-11 in '88. and the worst with Ben on the team is 8-8.

Thanks for this. I've had Nick on ignore ever since he went full on dumbfuck and said he was too smart for the military service life, but this was a treat to read.

I haven't watched either game, only a couple of lowlights.

This team is unlikeable and unwatchable. So is most of the NFL.

If Bell and Bryant had half as much give-a-shit as most of you posters, this would be a championship team.

To paraphrase Brad Pitt in Basterds, "Roger Goodell is making the NFL unwatchable. Oblige him."

Saturdays are for football, Sundays are now free and I'm loving it.

You're all rooting for laundry at this point and Laundry isn't even a Steeler anymore.
