Why would that strike you? Cowher = Tomlin.

I personally have always liked, what I think is Tomlin’s strategy, To treat the season as a marathon, and have the team ready for the sprint in December/January.

I would have thought it would have yielded more rings with the talent, but on the whole I think it was, has been and is a solid strategy. It is the strategy against the best dynasty in the history of league that has not worked when couple with above. Who knew! It is like betting on red at the roulette table and black just keeps coming up out of statistical norms. This time it will be red...this time for sure; definitely this time.

They don't have to play the 1974-79 Pittsburgh Steelers.

The sample size under Cowher is not representative.

In 2004 Ben was a raw rookie and he was thrust into the Baltimore game when it was already lost.

In 2006 he was recovering from his face plant and appendicitis.

Totally inappropriate to try and compare the two data sets.

Had an elite defense, so, if anything makes it more interesting that they, too, started slowly.

that's a given... didn't think you needed me to point it out. But look at what an outlier he is. Just because you have an elite QB doesn't mean you're going to win the SB every year, or even be better than .500 in the postseason.

Perhaps like the 2007 season when Tomlin admittedly worked the team hard in his first preseason training camp and the team collapsed down the stretch?

Ipso post facto fallacy

The 2016 and 2017 Steelers didn't work hard in training camp and still collapsed in the playoffs.

In 2006 the defense was middling all year. Didn’t play elite.

Also, they lost a game 9-0 in September. How you going to blame that on the defense?

I’ll say it again...the time under Cowher...not a representative sample.

Here’s a representative sample. 11 years under Cowher 1995-2005...they were 20-16 in September.

28-20 in September over the course of Cowher’s entire 15 year career.

I was just wondering why you left him out. Yes, agree on your other point. It's been 10 seasons since the Steelers last won the SB with our elite QB, and no it isn't on him.

Since Ben has been in the league only two coach/QB combinations have won multiple Super Bowls.

One is a pair of cheaters and the other is Eli/Coughlin.

Winning a Lombardi is really fucking hard.

Yeah, well guess what:
Mike Tomlin's September record is 23-17-1
Bill Cowher's September record was 28-20-0

Do you kinda see my point, here?

I guess you find some way to say mine is not a representative sample (since it doesn't make the point you would like it to make)?

Only 9 such combinations in super bowl Era.

Brady/Beli
Bradshaw/Noll
Montana/Walsh
Aikman/Johnson
Starr/Lombardi
Griese/Shula
Staubach/Landry
Plunkett/Flores
Eli/coughlin

5 combinations of QB winning multiple for different coaches, 2 are repeat qb's from above:

Elway and Ben each won 2 for same team under different coaches.

Aikman/Montana won their final superbowls with a different coach after winning multiple with same coach.

Looks like Peyton only one to win multiple for multiple teams?

**all lists are players as starting qb's

"Cheaters?" Now that's about as funny as a middle-aged man saying "Fraudlin."

And speaking of moving the goalposts, who is talking about coach/QB combos? We were just talking QB's.

Oh no! Not Peyton Manning! B2B hates him.

How is it not appropriate to call two guys who got caught cheating "cheaters"? It's not a funny nickname, it's a truthful label. Stop trying so hard.

I believe there were comparisons between Ben under Cowher and Ben under Tomlin and if you can't realize the subtext behind this post well...
