ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Steelers are "working hard" to complete an extension for contract-year QB Ben Roethlisberger before the start of the draft.
The 37-year-old Roethlisberger has been playing on his current deal since 2015. Although he is not the playmaker outside the pocket he once was, Big Ben has shown extremely little drop off. He has also shown increased durability, missing just one game over the past two years. Roethlisberger's leadership remains a question mark, but he is a good bet for 2-3 more strong seasons.

"Leadership remains a question mark."

Get the fuck out of here Schefter. He's been slinging it for 15 years and never had a losing season, always comes through when they need him the most. Blow that shade out your ass.

I really want to punch Shefter in his smug face. Did Big Ben rape his wife or something? Jesus

Fully anticipating a board meltdown of epic proportions when it is revealed that Ben didn’t sign a “team friendly” deal...

It will be relative and debatable, but I'd expect something in the neighborhood of $54M in new money (since it's really two additional years).....and if they're smart, they guaranteed this year's salary and next (i.e @ $44M guaranteed) so if Ben walks away after two years there's no dead money.

Of course, Colbert will play his usual game where he's going to shift a bunch of money into the future to create cap space (leaving a massive cap hit when Ben finally does retire, which may not be that unwise).

Oh good, then we can sign more backup linebackers and safeties!

After 15 years and two championships, 3 SB appearances, even if he sucks at "leadership" does it matter anymore?

Had to get that little barb in there otherwise they may take away his access card to the building in Bristol or whatever company he works for.

3 year deal according to Steelers youtube page

https://www.steelers.com/news/roethlisberger-signed-to-three-year-deal

Edit: Now I am reading that it is a 2 year extension worth 68 million with 37 million in guarantees.

Making 80 million in 3 years all in. Not bad.

26.6 with 30 million guaranteed. That seems like a bargain relative to other QBs and other sports leagues.

Awesome news!

The only way to improve on that would be if it was accompanied by another headline: "In other news, Tomlin Canned."

(A guy can dream, can't he?)

Until this happens anything else they do is essentially reshuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

Would have been so nice to enter the year with a fresh voice along with the ability to do 2nd grade math.

“We wanted to put time pressure on the Raiders”...

Guys, that was quoted from Rotoworld.com not AS

Wait, you’re not a Tomlin fan, 95?

Been hard to tell.

I was a big fan at first. Then not quite as much but still supported him. Can no longer support him even a little.

He’s beyond proven to be unfit to lead and coach an NFL team.

Look no further than trying to put “time pressure” on an opponent that had their own freaking TO in pocket and wasn’t using it.

He’s a mental midget that blows nothing but hot air.

I’d sign up for 0-16 right now if it led to Deuce growing some balls and finally firing this fraud.

After thinking (hoping) that the "Leadership remains a question mark." comment might be the dumbest thing I read today, I came across this beauty:

https://www.12up.com/posts/6353026-ridi ... fP86EsedLg

Some of the quotes from this one were even beyond what show up in the heat of a game day thread when we lose to the Raiders when we are all insane and drunk (though with good reason)

"Are we forgetting the man lost two of his biggest offensive weapons? We know his stats were off the charts last season, but that's about to change in a big way in 2019."
Huh? First of all, he didn't just lose two of his biggest weapons, he lost one; Bell wasn't around last year to help with Ben's "off the charts" numbers

"how can you justify this type of pay for a QB on the back nine of his career and then not give Le'Veon Bell the money he wants?"
Easily - No one gave Bell the money he wanted as he ended up with less from the Jets than the Steelers offered. Also, Brady, Brees, Rogers, Rivers and Ben all 35 or older. Would you rather pay them the big money or 7-start Jimmy Garafalo? Or maybe "Never won a big game contracters like Kirk Cousins, Matt Stafford or Derrek Carr......

Heavy sigh, I think the real question is how can you NOT justify paying a reasonable QB salalry to your 2-time SB Champ who just led the league in passing?

Hopefully we can squeak out more playoff wins over these next 3 years than we have the previous.
