Lets go on record, and why, for such a controversial pick...

As a big Penn State fan, I hate Shazier for the plays he has made against us. I am very intrigued by his athletic ability and nose for the ball. I cant imagine a better player to man the "hero" spot that Troy played last year. I have no idea how he will fill a hole in the NFL.

I am optimistically, happy with the pick...

He will be erratic in his first year. He will make the "how the hell did he get there" play and then have a blown assignment. I see him as a great asset that needs development.

He's the guy all right. But more like A-guy like several more that will fit on this D, and return it to it's dominant ways. His speed will pay off.

I also like the pic. Speed was much needed and the front office went after it.

ST's got about as complete an overhaul as it needed IMO (through this draft) and should be a hell of a lot better this season. Shazier is going to be a big part of that too. Perhaps he see's the field on defense. We'll know a lot more after camp and pre-season.

Gee, wow, I'm not sure what Zivco's take on Shazier is, I'm really interested in his take when he re-registers.

I honestly think he was BPA @ #15. He'll be a player.

If he can learn and keep his assignments, he'll be a very good player...better than Timmons.

But he was very undisciplined in college...we'll see if that changes in the pros.

I am sure Zivco considers Shazier an exceptional pick with exceptional speed, the ability to skate through traffic while shedding blocks who demonstrates textbook tackling form.

I read an article last year about the impact Luke Kuechly had on the Panthers D. Don't remember where I read it or I would post. Anyway, article talked about how teams have moved away from the importance of a great middle linebacker..... and how Luke's affect on the team sort of opened GM's eyes......

I believe R.S. is Colbert's attempt to duplicate the Panther's success with Kuechly.
I do :geek: n't know if R.S. will be half as good as L.K, but I'm definitely pulling for him.

I'm also hoping Spence's knee holds up. Would love to see those two in the middle once L.T. contract expires. I like L.T., but I just don't see him as being anything "special". It seems the coaches do, though....

I suppose I could view this as a fresh start with all past commentary wiped away due to whatever situation arose a few days ago. Not going to happen. See, I don't give a fuck and that's the problem...just rolling.

I don't like anything about RS game. I don't see him as smart enough to get there, I don't think he's physical enough to take on anyone the way there, and I don't think he will be a passable tackler in the NFL. All this TP and LK talk is crazy because RS is very stupid football IQ wise...and you are making assumptions about coverage off of a 40 time...in 13 games last season I think he had 4 passes defensed, zero INTs and two of the PDs were as a pass rusher.

He is fast. But as Easy E once said "...but don't know where the fuck he going."

I actually have some optimism that one of either Williams, Moats, or Spence can be at least an average ILB. I think Williams in particular has a chance of making the jump...I think the toolbox is there.

Shazier's the type of guy to walk into a bathroom with three open urinals and choose the one in the middle.

I think Shazier is a guy, but it concerns me that we, as a message board, feel the need to assign gender-normative identifying nouns to Steelers players.

As an aside: It would be cool if there was a feature that allowed us to "favorite" each others' posts.

We don’t hide from that. We accept that, embrace that and understand there is a certain amount of misery that comes with the position we are in.

I like Shazier a lot. He will succeed. No doubt in my mind.

Shazier is looking like a classic workout warrior. Fast track speed but poor vision/instincts and no ability to beat blocks means he'll play a lot slower on the field.

Isn't an impact tackler. Wrap and drag from behind is his style.

I hope he proves me wrong.

Assuming he learns to diagnose plays quickly, with his speed I'm betting on lots of tackles.

He can be a special player. The negativity for this guy is brutal.

I think he can get a lot of tackles. The question is whether those tackles will be at the LOS or TFL or 5-7 yards down the field. I think he can be a solid player, just not live up to his draft position, which I think was a round too early.

I don't watch Ohio State football, so I have no first hand knowledge on Shazier.

But, several of my close friends are die-hard Buckeyes and they tell me Shazier is an "animal". They tell me he is relentless, mean, and extremely talented.

I realize they are bias but they hate the Steelers and they seemed actually annoyed that we graBbed another Buckeye to play with Heyward.

I suggest you watch for yourself some of his game film:

Pay attention to his path to the ball and ability to beat blocks.

Shazier struggled anytime he faced a quality team or opponent.

I had Shazier 96th on my top 100 board...I believe Shazier's fit in the draft is where the Steelers drafted Dri Archer.

I concede another shitty GM like Kevin Colbert would have reached for Shazier

Shazier does not play fast when he is asked to

Take on blocks
Read and React

Despite his timed speed Shazier does not play fast against the run
