I'd say he's just about right where Troy was in his 3rd year. Troy had plenty of his own issues staying healthy and 100%, as well.

That's a stretch. Troy was otherworldly and 2005 was one of his better seasons. Shazier's instincts will never come close to Polamalu's.

2005 was when Polamalu came into his own.

His first 2 years, he struggled to stay healthy.

Shazier likely isn't a sure-fire Hall of Famer like Polamalu, but he doesn't have anywhere near the help Troy had (our D isn't nearly as good) and it's very early in Shazier's 3rd season.

The reviews so far are very positive.

I'm not happy with Shaz missing tackles. IMHO it is unacceptable. You drive into your target wrap him up and take him to the ground. The whole defense has these same issues to be honest. I don't need Shaz to be elite. I need him to make stops by not missing tackles.

I agree that Troy's defenses certainly helped him, but I would also argue just as much, if not more, that Troy was the straw that stirred the drink. If any one player took that defense into the next level, it was him.

His instincts on that INT were pretty damm good.

T Polumalu had issues with that as well. He'd bounce off players, but blew up plays enough for team mates to make a play. It that regard I'll take the good with the bad.

He turned around right when the ball arrived to make the int and held on. You can't teach that.

Troy flew in and missed tackles, too. Maybe not as many, but he also had more play "in front" of him than Shazier, too.

Shazier makes big plays in big games time and time again. He'll never be Levon Kirkland in the run game, but the kid has special traits. The int was huge, but the deflection to Hilton was the WOW play. Huge jump and if he doesn't get a hand on the ball Ravens have a first down at our 20

Wow...I haven't posted here in years and I still see the word Zivco..me thinks the ladies doth protest too much - still...Anywho todays game was a great example of a team that builds through the draft and a team that uses FA too much because they cannot build through the draft. Like it or not the game changed after 2011 and our D had to too and holy shit if Colbert hasn't fielded the most talented homegrown D in the league again...Shazier Heyward Tuit Watt are the irreplaceable parts but Sean D, Burns, Dupree, Grave Digger, all could become top tier as well. Also watch my damn show I couldnt post for two years cause I was making it... its on cinemax but here is a free link

We need Shazier to make plays. He did today.

Thank you, I had to endure months of Bengals fans in Greenfield Ohio, but back to the topic, Troy broke the Ravens back in AFC Champ but Shazier pulled an immaculate reception with that fumble in Cincy. Utterly pulled victory from defeat.

Along with his playmaking ability, RS can also lay some wood for his size.

He's still got a long way to go to be in TP territory, IMO.

I'll have look at all 22 but looked like Davis was sitting behind that coverage be interesting to look at it.

Shazier made plays all over the field and even ones he didn't make blew up what Rats tried to do.

That cult experience has mellowed you Zivco. It's good they let you get on the "satan box" on your poppy breaks now.

to be fair we've all known Shazier is capable of being this player in a given game, i think hitting that high more than a few times a season is still a question mark

he's certainly far from 43 in that regard, as of now
