He's probably a good fit for Haley ball.....but this board unanimously thought Alex Smith was a journeyman, at best, last year. Has been his whole career. Having a good season but don't be fooled.

Nobody's ever going to win anything of consequence with Alex Smith under center.

The way Ben has looked this year, we might be at the point of saying the same thing about him now.

He's laboring out there. Looks slow as shit moving and his throwing.....is shit.

He looks like a good QB playing in a complete shit of an offense.

Just cant take your comments with ANY sense of credibility. Top O line, arguably the best RB in the game AND arguably the BEST WR in the game and you call it "a complete shit of an offense". It makes zero sense. Zero. Just watched Rogers take the ball down the field with less than a minute on the clock, below average Oline, no running back to speak of NO EXCUSES just got the job done. Kodiak you need to take a walk and clear your mind cause you are spewing nonsense.

Every QB is going to look and throw like "shit" when every throw is into tight, contested windows.

He's also missing open receivers (ala AB last week) with poor decisions.

Ben can't escape ANYTHING anymore. His legs are gone, his arm is going.

That was a huge part of it.

Nobody but Brown gets open consistently, but Ben used to be able to throw guys open.

Add in his release looks slower. That’s why ball is getting tipped so much and he’s behind receivers.

Disinterested, maybe. The rest I don't really see. Curious that we've seen a lot less of Ben calling the shots in no-huddle, this year.

He's had a good number of balls tipped in past seasons. But could be a result of lack of separation, which I'm saying is more about play calling/design.

Pay particular attention to it moving forward. Hard to say for certain. It’s just something that I felt I noticed today. Could be wrong.

Plus, A LOT of his passes are wobbly now. He’d uncork some ducks on deep passes in the past but now even the shorter ones that in the past were lasers appear wobbly & lacking velocity.

If it is in fact a factor, it’ll only get worse as the weather does.

He's growing a lot of those quick screens/flats passes without taking the time to grab the laces

There is nothing wrong with Ben. The offense just needs to gel. AB was hot today. Bell was back in form. The other receivers need to pick it up. They need to take a game and force the shit out of it to Bryant.

Then get some damn diversity in the play calling and the diversity with the reads. It feels like they just keep going back to the Madden play that always works on the PS3.

100% agree. He is Todd Haley's dream QB.

Has nothing to do with me thinking he's a journeyman-- he fits precisely because he is primarily interested in getting rid of the ball in 1.8 seconds and he can run a little.

I would 100% take Smith over Ben with this offense.

Alex Smith leads the league in QB rating and completion percentage. He's also one of the more athletic QBs and rarely turns the ball over. He's done with KC after this year. They've got their young QB ready to go.

Steelers also scouted Cousins heavily. If Ben hangs em up I bet they sign one of those two.

Correct. I am not bad mouthing Alex Smith he is what he is and what he is is what Haley Tomlin really want IMO.
I am saying Ben is 100% miscast with this team. They don't want what he is best at and asking him to do what they want for that money doesn't make sense.

Imagine is Brady or Bell or AB having an atrocious game and then acting "facetious". You'd all label them thin-skinned, me-first, douchebags. And you'd be right.

For Ben's sake, I hope he was sincere. Regardless, I wish he wasn't "facetious" about his retirement threat. He's no longer a franchise QB. He wasn't a franchise QB in the playoffs last year. He didn't just fall off a cliff.

Ben isn't anywhere near Peyton Manning done when Peyton won the SB...although that was with an insane D which we don't have.

The thing is...he's throwing lasers out there mixed in with some of these balls that sail. It's inconsistent and when I look at it...it seems to be mechanics with his footwork. If he doesn't step into it enough, the ball sails. I don't get where the inconsistency is coming from.

What I do know is that our "weapons" are overrated. Badly. AB is still great, but Bell IMO is on a downward trajectory already. Go back and look at his film in space a year or two ago. He's a different player now. In any sort of space he badly struggles and is getting brought down more easily. He's lost quickness.

So, has MB. Alien doesn't have that burst anymore. Again...go watch the film from 2 years ago. He's in another gear now.

James is a solid TE but he's never going to threaten with YAC.

So, the truth is that the offensive struggles are playcalling, some on Ben, and some on the supporting cast declining or being less than we thought they would be.

If you couldn't see the difference in athleticism and team speed yesterday when we had the ball, you are being willfully blind. Too easy to pile this all on Ben. There is a lot more to this.

As bad as this was it really is still early. Plus every team has issues, not just us. I still see a few eye popping offensive performances in the future. Just like the inconsistency of the Steelers to do that. Ben will have a 7 td game next week.

Crazy going from odds on SB favorite to wash up in two days. Ha

Biggest strategic question to me is what to do about qb next season. To me this just moved from back to front burner. I have no idea where bens heads at. Maybe nobody does but him. But whatever the Steelers choose to do is going to define the next 5+ years.

What I would do if I were tomlin but with the power to actually influence things, is draft a qb very early followed by a rb, and bring in my favorite OC.

I’m curious if Ben continues to take his veteran day off on Wednesday’s.

A true leader cannot be happy with the results of this offense. Whether the reason is him, Haley, Tomlin matters not. The results suck which means the unit needs more work not less.

As a team leader he should see this himself and shame on him if he doesn’t.

Same goes for Tomlin if he continues to foster an environment where grossly underperforming vets are rewarded with days off.
