The author definitely agrees with FC: "Now that he's been released, we'd expect there to be a market for a savvy veteran on a playoff-caliber team needing run-stuffing depth."

He'll end up going to the Pats and never get injured again for 4 more pro bowl seasons.

He comes here, he'll get a hamstring injury or mid foot sprain that lingers all season.

We’re currently 29th in cap space with around 1.6 mil to play with. Don’t think that would be near enough.

Not always about money...Most of the time it is.

I think the Pats and Steelers are the 2 best fits.

2017 Football is all about matchups

True. He would be an awesome fit with Shazier. But there are some other great fits out there that could offer him twice as much, probably more, several of them playoff teams. Is he the same since blowing out his achilles? I assume that’s mainly why they're letting him go.

Cap space is fungible....

You can always restructure....among various other things

Certainly possible. But would likely take multiple restructures and we’ve already restructured Brown, Heyward, and Wilcox. Just seems very unlikely.

Agreed. I never realized this until I started reading the old site and then this site.

How about guys like Pouncey, DeCastro, or Gilbert?

Just realized how expensive our OL is.

I just came here to post what the OP posted and suggest the same cut you just did. You want help for a leaky run D? Navarro Bowman.

Niners are swallowing his entire $6.75 million salary and $4.7 million in dead money next year, a sign they obviously feel Bowman is over the hill. A four-time All-Pro selection, Bowman shouldn't take long to resurface http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/5648/navorro-bowman
Could still come in for the veteran minimum on a 1 year tryout and still be getting paid. Bowman over Steve Johnson any day. Do It!
injury history:
2013 MCL/ACL did not play all of 2014 rehabbing knee
2016 Tore achilles tendon. 2017 healthy so far...

Love to see that happen, but probably won't. He would be an awesome complement to Shazier. Only thing in the back of mind is that will he play special teams at this point in his career? I mean I know we could tell Vince Williams to play it but I don't know if that would be a factor.

I could definitely see the Patriots striking a deal though, this seems to be what they do pretty much every year.

Can he stop the run. For the love of God...can he stop the run?

That's Bowman's claim to fame Chicago. He isn't very good in coverage but can Stop the Run.

He are some reasons we dont want him (quotes from SF media):

Simply put: the first five games of this season made it clear that Bowman didn’t have a long-term future with the 49ers,

But it was clear from the first snap of the season that Bowman’s deterioration of athleticism on the field — he can’t get from sideline to sideline anymore, a necessity for a middle linebacker in this pass-happy era of the NFL — was going to make this campaign a painful one to watch. The one-time Niners great is well past his prime, was unable to play every down for San Francisco, wasn’t considered an indispensable member the locker room, and was on a team that’s a year away from even starting its rebuild. In some ways, the real shock is that it took this long for the team to move on from Bowman.
