Doesn't look like he's playing in the Colts game. Hello Golden.

I hope it's Wilcox. Or is Davis injured too? Yikes...

Why haven't we seen more of Wilcox? Is that a product of Golden playing better?

Or possibly JJ Wilcox. He was a late addition right before the season started and so kind of behind in terms of knowing the defense, but now that he has been with the team for half a season, I am hoping that he is used more.

I think Wilcox, yes, he may take some bad angles in pursuing the run but the man is a controlled hitter, who can force turnovers, force fumbles and also make an INT with his hands, he already has one INT this year in limited playing time.

Until Mitchell's injury in Detroit, the Steelers really weren't using either Golden or Wilcox much. Golden had only 10 snaps on defense before the Detroit game, and Wilcox has only had 9 snaps in the last 4 games. Meanwhile Gay continues to see quite a bit of playing time. Seems like they would rather have Gay on the field rather than that third safety.

I am intrigued by Wilcox, the playmaking ability, the athleticism. He started out as a slot WR back in college and then was moved to defense. He was even used as a kick returner some, (hint hint special teams coach Danny Smith), averaged over 25 yards a return with 1 TD. For being 215 pounds, he has really good lateral quickness and agility, while he is not this great man to man coverage safety, he probably is better in this regard than Golden or Mitchell.

It looks like Davis is finally starting to round into shape as the season has progressed, making more plays on the ball, in coverage, etc. Mitchell to me is a weakness and him missing a couple games might be good to see what Wilcox can do. This might be a nice audition for Wilcox to not just get playing time moving forward when Mitchell returns, but maybe for 2018 in regards to being a starter? Mitchell will be entering his last year of his contract and the Steelers can cut ties with him and save almost $6 million. With his injuries seeming to mount with increased regularity, it might be time to move on from him after the season.

Injured achilles? He'll never golf again.

Great post Scrunge. You should be writing for a living.

At times Wilcox has struggled in pass protection with the Cowboys and Bucs but he is a hitter. He has also had some injuries. It would be great if he could jell at FS. Mitchell is an overpaid pretender at this stage of his career.

I'm confused. Are we supposed to be upset about this?
