I have not seen it done, but I’d like to know who has defended him best. What scheme seems to work? Nobody’s going to shut him down, but perhaps a scheme minimizes the number of targets he can get.

Chiefs, Raiders, Falcons, Panthers and Broncos each held him to 4 or fewer catches and no TDs.

How the hell did they do it?

Well...the Raiders simply didn't defend Brandin Cooks, and the Falcons were gashed in the run game. The Broncos and Chiefs both had strong secondaries. The Panthers still allowed 30 points, so I wouldn't say they really contained the Pats.

the most fitting strategy is to outfit all of your safeties with very heavy metal elbow braces and have them take repeated cracks at breaking his fucking jaw or giving him a concussion. preferably after the play is over and out of bounds if at all possible.

The Steelers doubled no one in the game. They should have bracketed Gronk

Out of this group, only the Chiefs see them regularly - oh and the Broncos

So sadly I rewatched the game especially the second half focusing on Gronk and Davis. The one thing that was apparent was that Brady was throwing to Gronk's shoulder opposite of Davis's position. Gronk pushed off a lot to create separation but Davis stayed w/ him but mostly trailing. Mitchell should've been able to read this but he never seemed to be either cognizant or in position. He continually played super deep and if he would've played normal safety depth he would've been able to make a play on some of those passes.

If Butler actually had Mitchell or an LB bracketing Gronk, we would be talking a different story. Butler failed to adjust and it bit him in the rear. I still say a faster, bigger guy like Allen would've been a better man matchup but that meant losing either Sutton or Gay and they weren't willing to do that.

Mitchell is as worthless at tits on a bull. When was the last time he arrived in time in either 2 deep or single high to break up a pass? I think it is before my vasectomy when he was still in college. Make a fucking play on the ball. I'd rather have Mike Wagner at 68 at this point. At least he could recognize the play...

Haden.

His size and his long arms would be a little more favorable, but if Brady is dealing and Gronk is healthy he’s a matchup nightmare for anyone.
