I once pulled both calves (I know) playing basketball. I was 26 at the time.

I had trouble walking for 2 weeks and it was 2 months before I could run again.

Not a pull, though-- a contusion.

Was it ever for sure confirmed to be a contusion? If that's the case, I would assume once swelling has gone down that there's no further risk of injury (when combined with aggressive massage to break up any scar tissue).

It's been a week and a half....to be limping like that still, one hell of a kick.

I had a very, very minor strain/tear. I felt a tightness, and immediately stopped running. Walked home the last mile with mild discomfort, but only a very slight limp.

Not to compare myself to a pro athlete in his prime, but mine was tight and sore for almost a week, and probably two weeks to fully heal. I just don't look at AB now and think he'll be 100% in 2.5 weeks.

The one thing you can tell for sure in that video is there is no bruising or swelling in his calf - that rules out a Grade 3 (over 50%) tear, which is what Troy had.

Sunday brought a bad result for the Steelers.
But in the aftermath of their 27-24 loss to the Patriots, there was some good news regarding wide receiver Antonio Brown.
Not only did he not need emergency surgery for compartment syndrome, he appears to have the good (better) kind of partial calf muscle tear.
Calf muscle strains and partial tears are known to linger, especially in explosive athletes like Brown.

If this were a partial tear from elongation suffered while changing directions or pushing off, it could easily affect Brown for the next 4-6 weeks, which would leave him at less than 100 percent for the playoffs.
By video, though, this partial muscle tear was from a direct blow and thus will have less separation of muscle fibers and a potentially quicker return.
Yes, he will likely still miss the final two games of the regular season, but this gives him a good chance to be effective for the playoffs — and potentially 100 percent for a possible rematch with the Patriots.

It's AB. His skillset requires a healthy calf. He missed last game. It's a concern. Hopefully it will all work out.

It's a pretty rough injury.

Would be surprised if he's 100% or close to it in two weeks. I expect him to play, but I don't think he'll be right until the SB if we make it.

I had a similar type of injury when I was in high school. Now granted, that was over 40 years ago, and I wasn’t a pro athlete with unlimited, top of the line medical and physical resources available to me. I was on crutches for 2 and half weeks, and it was another 2-3 weeks before I could run even reasonably well. Now I can’t remember the exact diagnosis...calf strain, tear, contusion...whatever. I just remember it hurting like all hell...

A strong possibility we’ll be without him, or with him very limited for the divisional round, but still too early to tell for sure. If anyone can recover in time it’s AB, but the last thing any of us would want is to see him compromised to the point that he re-aggravates the injury in the divisional round and is out the following week (assuming a Steelers victory). My feeling is both Brown and Bell will be needed to get by NE.

What is that, a treadmill inside a hyperbaric chamber?!?

Can't really tell if he still has a limp/hitch, but it kind of looks like it to me. Jogging in a week, probably 80-90% for divisional game.

It's an alter G or "anti-gravity" treadmill

It lets you lower the amount of weight you are running with (through the skirt like thing around AB's waist)

Ok makes perfect sense then. Not wanting to over work the injured calf with full weight/impact. Step in the right direction though... ;)

So walking with less than full weight? I'd say that is not nearly as far along at this point as I would have hoped.

As long as he's able to keep the muscle contracting and relaxing, and increasing circulation to/through it without any setbacks, he should be mended up by the 14th.

It’s a Body weight support treadmill. He wears a suit around lower body. Zips into the tent part. And it’s inflated/pressurizes inside the formed vacuum to take weight off. So he can walk with, for example 25 percent less body weight. Neat stuff

Pending WC weekend plays out as expected, I don't think having A.B. is a must in order to beat the Jags. Now, if he's out for the AFCCG....well, it may be time to panic.

I don’t know about this............McDonald and Bryant are starting to blossom. If they can continue to play well and we get JuJu and Bell the ball, I still think this offense has enough to get out of the AFC.

The defense scares me.

PITTSBURGH (AP) Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Antonio Brown is inching toward a return from a left calf injury.

Brown hasn’t played since injuring the calf in the first half of a loss to New England on Dec. 17. He posted video of himself working out on a treadmill on Monday. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says he ran into Brown on Tuesday and believes Brown’s rehab is ”going well.”

The AFC North champion Steelers have the week off before hosting a playoff game on Jan. 14. Tomlin says if Pittsburgh had been forced to play this weekend there’s a chance Brown would be in the lineup. Brown led the NFL with 1,533 yards receiving this season despite missing the final 2+ games.

That's the biggest BS line I've heard from Tomlin this year. There's no way AB would have been in the lineup.

You'd rather Tomlin publicly share intimate details about AB's recovery to make it easier for opponents to game plan against us?

Video/pics/links needed to verify your statement

Since they didn't quote Tomlin, I'm going to assume they derived "chance" of being in the lineup from Tomlin stating at his presser on Tuesday that, if there were a game this weekend, Brown would be listed as questionable for it.

Bell says he's confident that Brown will be back for the playoff game. Pouncey said Brown wanted to come back to practice the week before the Stains. That Jugs machine is getting him motivated.

How could you possibly know that?

I don't, I'm speculating based upon the twitter videos. I just don't see him being game speed in nine days. BTW, I hope he does come back, we're so much better off with him in the lineup.

I think best case scenario is he's using the weight reducer strictly as a precaution, because all he really needs is to work/loosen it to improve blood flood flow and breakup scar tissue.

Otherwise, I can't see him as ready to run right now, either. But I don't think he needs to be out there running, or even jogging, until literally warm-ups before the game. What I mean is, there's really not rehab or working back involved here....strictly a matter of healing to the point of full strength and mobility.

I told you he’d be fine.

After that first video of him in his driveway, I said he’d be fine.
