Hackenberg may end up playing against the Pats instead of or in addition to Rice Patty.

Probably doesn't make any difference...but defending a kid first time out sometimes leads to unknowns to defend against.

I'm with Swiss. If you don't start Ben, dress him.

Be interesting to see if McCullers gets a hat...considering the criticism Tomlin got for keeping someone he never played.

Be freakin' awesome to see Hack beat the Pats. Dude hooked up for some big plays with Jesse James at Penn State....was #1 recruited QB in country coming out of high school.

I hung out with him at a restaurant last spring with a mutual friend. Nicest kid in the world. I feel bad for all the shit he gets. I'd love to see him succeed.

This post is ridiculous. Do you think Brady and Belichick care about things like "rust?" Just go out and execute.

Brady is playing because, as you said, they don't have the #1 seed locked up and they want homefield advantage throughout.

Remember when Belichick played Welker in a meaningless game and he tore his ACL? What a fucking genius.

Whomever said acclimation to game speed is spot on.

You cant account for that practicing. At the QB position the most.

Is there really a big difference in the rust factor between 13-14 days off vs 20-21? If we are worried about rust, then Been is going to be rusty regardless of playing today.

Maybe we should have lost a couple more games to avoid the first round bye rust!

Exactly TTP, that's why lessening the time in which the 'rust' has to manifest itself the better. Just an opinion. We'll see how these guys come off the bench in two weeks...

The decision to not play them isn't baseless

Steelers can lock up number 1 so why are we sitting and they aren't

I don't get the rust argument. Bens going to have 13-14 days between games if he doesn't play today. If rust is a real thing, he's going to be rusty regardless. Playing half a game 3 weeks out isn't going to change that.

Also, do we even know if rust is really a thing? Feels like one of those "facts" the people say over and over without any evidence that it's true.

21 days between games

For the Steelers to have gotten the no. 1 seed, they needed to win and the Pats needed to lose. They didn’t control their own destiny.

But we all know the result now — the Steelers beat the Browns with their second stringers (as they probably expected to) and the Patriots crushed the Jets (as the Steelers obviously expected).

So now people can only be upset about so-called “rust.” If they were that concerned about it, they should have blown a few games and fallen to the third or fourth seed. That first round bye rust is a killer.

13-3 season and a first round bye, and people still find something to complain about.
