The guy listed as #3, Ben Councell is 6'5", 255. Has been known to move into a three-point stance as a defensive end. Has been a backup at ND so far. And he missed much of last season with a knee injury. BUT…

As a project, he has a great deal of potential. Size and athleticism. You can’t teach being 6'5 and 255. And huge upside…

Kid never played organized football until his sophomore year in HS. Within three years, he was a top recruit. There are high-school linebackers with more experience in the game than this guy. And yet, he projects to start and be a key run-stopper for ND.

Don’t know as much about the game as a lot (most) of yinz. But this guy seems like someone to watch.

Love the screen name, and you can never have enough bodies at OLB in a 34. Several intelligent folks, on this site and others, have suggested it's prudent for a team like the Steelers to draft one every year.

The piece did mention some struggles in the 34 last season, though. He'll definitely be on TV plenty.

Thanks, Ice. Cervates, you know.

Yeah. The 34 struggles are a concern, I guess. But the fact that he has learned so much so fast sort of assuages that a bit (maybe). He has shown that he can learn. That is, unless his problems are physical. Being able to evaluate that would be over my head.

If he ends up playing on Sundays, he will be a project for someone, no doubt. But great raw material.

Ability to learn will be key. From everything we've seen out of training camp, we've got some good coaching for 34 OLB prospects.

Concussion in practice last week. Probably not a big deal if he hadn’t just lost half a season and spring practice to a knee injury. Might not be a big deal if he were a first round prospect. But how much will this matter? How much do you lose, sitting out a week or so of summer training with a concussion?
