Moving from the old vote only system to the BCS was a major step forward

I always saw it as more of the same... You're just averaging the polls to come up with #1 and #2.

An actual playoff is the only way to define a champion. It's not a popularity contest.

You are correct. The trick is determining how many teams make the playoffs and what the objective system is in place to determine those teams. The more i think of this the more i think that 4 is the right number and that a rule is imposed that if you are in a power 5 conference and "don't" win your conference title you can't play in the final four. The conf champ games then become somewhat defacto quarterfinal games.

Why not make it 6, and give 2 teams a bye. Give one spot to each of the Power 5 champs, then the 6th spot to the best non-Power 5 team. Have each Power 5 have a championship game.Thinking here, for me anyways, is that I want some sort of system, that is most OBJECTIVE, not based on "voters" or "opinions", that whould give EVERY single D1-A team at least a shot at winning the title, even if unrealistic. With conference title games, you are basically adding 5-8 "playoff games". But of course, you'd have to live with the fact that teams percieved as better will be left out. Myself. I don't care. But others want the 2, 4 or 6 or whatever "subjectively decided best teams" in the playoff. The key thing that people don't get, that is true, is that BEST TEAM doesn't=CHAMPION, it could, but it doesn't have to and it doesn't matter if it turns out that way.

Some good opinions and ideas here, and I agree for the most part. There will most likely never be a perfect system, but getting polls, voters, and opinions out of the equation would be the first step in the right direction.
Condoleezza Rice??? WTF?!?
