The first reported meetings for the Steelers came at the East/West game a few weeks ago, and they met with a pair of defenders. Outside linebacker Austin Calitro from Villanova, and safety Damarius Travis from Minnesota. http://www.behindthesteelcurtain.com/20 ... draft-2017

I know zero about either player but I like where they're starting. Safety and pass rush=Positions of need.

Don't know much about Calitro-- a STs sort of a guy-- but the other three are some good football players.

You can be sure they spoke with every player at the SR Bowl. A lot of these reports are just who a random reporter saw them speaking to. I'd value Pro Day and official visits over any of these type of reports.

You're right Perch. I thought I'd get a "visits/interviews" thread started since it's that time of year. Unless you wish to start a separate "official visits" thread yourself.

I must admit I love Switzer and would spend a 3rd round pick on him purely for his ability as a punt returner. 7 punt return touchdowns. Rogers was just okay in his second year but he is not really a RAC guy, gets tackled too easily and not enough wiggle and elusiveness. Brown is more and more hesitant as a punt returner and I think it is time for them to relieve him of those duties. Switzer could come in and be an upgrade over Rogers in the slot and take over for Brown on punt returns.

As long as AB wants to return punts he will. Drafting a punt returner is a waste of a pick.

But does he want to even return punts anymore?

His punt return numbers have dwindled the past three years:

30 returns in 2014
22 returns in 2015
15 returns in 2016

So, if you take that and project it for the 2017 season Brown is on pace to have 8 returns?

How can anybody not observe Brown these past couple years and not see a player who is more hesitant as a return man? He just hasn't been the same dangerous return man that he was earlier in his career. He picks his spots more, he is too damn cautious and not aggressive enough. That is not a good trend. That is how players get hurt when they are doing something half-heartedly.

Other may disagree with my assessment but let us not kid ourselves that Brown's production as a punt returner is just awe inspiring. It is not. It has been steadily declining for the past three years.

Drafting a highly accomplished punt returner and having him take over for Brown is a need. Besides when you have a WR with a cap hit over $20 million, best not to tempt fate by having him return punts anymore.
