Minnesota played without AP and Teddy Bridgewater last year and, although we like McKinnon as a backup RB, some of his weaknesses (pass protection) were exposed last year. We add to the RB stable with a player who has all the athleticism and explosion you could ever want in a RB, but whose attention to detail and physicality increased towards the end of his college career. We think he makes for a RB rotation where all three guys (Latavius Murray, Jerick McKinnon, and our rookie) can fill useful roles and make each other better by limiting their exposure. Not only that, but this player has enough vision and wiggle to potentially be a #1 RB someday, which would be a nice bonus.

The Vikings select:

Chris Carson, RB, Oklahoma State

I could make picks for the Rams all day. They have so many holes in the lineup and what players they do have are vastly overrated. I'll bet I could 10 guys undrafted in this draft or the last board draft who would be upgrades for their roster.

At this point, I'm going BPA-- which happens to be at a position where the big name and small play Alec Ogletree starts... this player looks to have the 'it' in terms of instincts, burst, and power to be a real FC sort of ILB.

The Los Angeles Rams select:

Chase Allen, LB, Southern Illinois

The Bucs have no viable backup QB, with the departure of a fairly high quality backup in Mike Glennon. This QB is flying pretty far under the radar, accounted for by two things that all can be deceiving:

1. His completion percentage was below 60 percent in an offense that offers some short uncontested throws... but his receiving crew dropped more than their share of easy catches, certain routes were very predictable, and he had good downfield accuracy... his average attempt was much farther downfield than most QB in systems like this.

2. He had two season-ending injuries that last two seasons... but he is almost fully recovered and expects to get the complete bill of health by 4/20. A spot as a backup might give him a chance at an extended career, since he tends to go pretty full bore on the field and is unafraid of taking a hit. he's a gamer and solid athlete-- maybe he has to dial it back a hair to stay on the field.

He has terrific arm talent and mobility, with decent size. We're betting he can become a solid NFL backup who can make a play or two if you need him to.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers complete their 2017 draft by selecting:

Seth Russell, QB, Baylor

I finally got a super sleeper all the way through to the perfect landing spot, without mentioning his name or hearing jack shit about him in this whole process, except for a couple of people who've actually seen the kid play and are, like me, extremely high on his potential.

He's a white skill position player who talks a little smack. He's a TE with WR skills. He didn't murder anyone, but otherwise, he'll fit right in in Foxboro.

Oh, and he's 6045, 236lbs... and had a 38" vert and ran a 4.58 40yd dash... with the best hands I've seen on tape for a prospect this year. I mean it. See highlight reel below. Had over 2000 yds and 20 TDs in three years starting at FCS level-- he can play.

The New England Patriots wrap up their 2017 Draft by selecting:

Robert Tonyan, Jr., TE, Indiana State

The Atlanta Falcons conclude their draft by going two dogs one bone with their Strong side DE pass rusher role. This player got little attention in the off-brand MAC, but his showing vs Mississippi State in the bowl game was solid-- has a great first step and his explosion testing (39.5/10'8" at 6011, 249lbs) is elite. Somebody please take this kid and refine those tools... big upside.

The Falcons select:

J.T. Jones, DE/OLB, Miami (OH)

Detroit is in a position to take BPA-- and they could use depth on OL. I rather like this player, especially as an interior player-- but he might be able to backup all 5 spots on the line. Good footwork and balance, enough power to sustain bull rush-- his arms are a little short of LT length, but he has some very good film. Plus, he got to practice against pick 7.249 every day-- each got better.

The Lions conclude their draft by selecting:

Image

7 250 Detroit Lions - Collin Buchanon, OL, Miami (OH)
