They aren’t going to sit Polanco, and they aren’t going to trade him. He’s being “paid” greatly by Pittsburgh Nutting standards, so he’s going to play.
But...does everyone remember several seasons ago when this board was ablaze over starting the season with Polanco in AAA, when he was the obvious missing link to a Pirates World Series appearance?

http://www.spotrac.com/mlb/pittsburgh-pirates/payroll/

Bob Nutting showed me something when he dumped Frankie's salary by trading away prospects.
Note: Another Frankie is now the top paid Pirate - Cervelli.

If you're the Nut, why not package Meadows with Cervelli and J-Hay and cut about 1/4 of your payroll?
I'm sure we could get some more pitchers because, according to NH, you can't have too much pitching.
I'm thinking some A-ball dudes that can throw about 95 because nobody can throw 95 anymore -- they throw 100 today.

Plus, think about all NH could do with all that "financial flexibility." Probably could throw a party for all the scouts as a reward for all their good work finding guys like Meadows to tease the fans with the next 5-year plan, you know. Of course, NH wouldn't want to spoil them -- maybe only charge them 50 cents a dog on dollar dog night -- with the understood up charge for each desired condiment.

Agree-

The more money the Nut makes, the better for the Pirates.

It is certainly better for MLB if the Yankees are champs so absolutely we should trade him to the Yanks.

Goddammit Nutting, you tightwad cheap-ass bastard, GO GET SOME BULLPEN HELP!

Against all odds this season, this team has shown heart, desire and bursts of power, but just like every year the payroll-starved Pirates have obviously missing pieces that waste the efforts of Cervelli & Co. and cause gut-wrenching losses like tonight, that should've been Ws. Several just this past week or two.

Sometimes I seriously wonder if we'd all been better off if the franchise had packed up and moved to N'Orleans or wherever they threatened to go, back in the mid-80s or 90s . . . so that the 20-year streak-of-infamy, and now this perennial teasing and failing act, wouldn't have besmirched the great memories of the Buccos of the glory days of 1960, the early 70s, and 1979 . . .

Felipe has turned into a pumpkin. Maybe he should change his name again. Or maybe the front office planted this Vasquez imposter for Rivero to save money and came up with the name change idea as a ruse.

They should designate this prick for assignment and make Glasnow the closer.

Add Wacha to the list of pitchers who own the Bucs.

I have no idea why they brought him back. They afraid the water cooler will get out of line?

There would have been some withdrawal pains for part of a season, but life would have continued. We'd have attained closure.
If the "New Orleans Pirates" had done well -- like the LA Dodgers did after being the Brooklyn Dodgers -- there would have been a positive link with the team's origins in Pittsburgh. Conversely, if the New Orleans Pirates suffered under an owner like the Nut people would associate the failure with the new location -- not with the city of Champions still hosting the Penguins and the Steelers.

He sucks. and he plays like 26% of the time. Not to mention he's WAYYYYY overpaid. What was that piece of shit catcher's name that was also Hurdles boy several years back? OH yeah, Hot Rod Barajas. He hit about .130 and runners could trot to 2nd base and not have to worry about getting thrown out. Reminds me of that situation.

Tonight’s game is a textbook example as to why the Pirates will be a streaky team in 2018.

Hitting with no pitching gets you these results...every...single...time.
