Is the Nutt getting nervous and trying to appease the fans? Thoughts?

Seems like he'd sure up some of the outfield, and I think the Pirates (surprise) might have saved a bit of money in this. Or, at least they were slightly in the red. Color me surprised. I really don't have anything bad to say about this trade.

Meh.

Not a bad trade, but it’s like getting Brian Giles.

?

The same Brian Giles that hit 35+ HR 100+ RBI on a yearly basis with the Pirates, finished top 20 in MVP voting every year, and is a top 100 player all time in a ton of offensive categories?

I could only wish it was Brian Giles.

From a plate discipline standpoint alone, they are complete polar opposite players.

The U.S. is holding it up. They won't grant him a visa. There are rumors floating around that he lied or withheld information about his previous DUIs from his earlier visa applications back when he originally came to the US and that has him flagged as a permanent denial.

I wasn’t making an absolute comparison.

How did the Pirates do when Giles was on the team?

Reads like you were. You were.

Are we now going to make the argument that he wasn't a great player because the 24 other people on the team sucked? He's arguably a top-10 offensive player in Pirates history. I feel like you could have said that about every good player on all the bad Pirates teams. "it's like getting a [Jason Bay]"

If we want to argue the "feel" of the trade that happened 20 years ago, Dickerson was elected to an all star for the Rays last season and needed to be traded because of $$ reasons. Giles was a relative unknown 4th OF with some decent numbers caught in a log jam in the outfield for the Indians. You pretty much know you're getting a swing-happy .270/.320 25 HR 70 RBI guy with Dickerson. That doesn't touch the type of impact Giles had on the Pirates offense. He was their offense more or less.

I guess they were both traded for relievers? So, good for you?

Incoherent.

that's nuts..i mean its not like hes a spy or terrorist..let the dude make a living.. seems it be a great propaganda story for usa and south korea vs the north if nothing else..think hes been over punished.
