That’s right- leave Joe Musgrove in after he’d thrown 105 pitches on a 95 degree day.

#Hurdled.

Holy Shit!!!

But first, I was thinking the same thing, Jeems, watching on my phone/tv broadcast --- just turned on the game after church, expecting a letdown day/blowout loss after the previous run of wins, instead find things tied-up in the 8th . . . then the Brews load the bases after the walk . . . my daughter stares at me as I yell "go to the pen, you idiot!" . . . nope, Hurdle leaves Musgrove out there to twist in the heat, sure enough, bases-clearing 3-run hit . . . and as the first 2 Bucs go down meekly in the bottom of the 8th I switch off the game in disgust, another "Hurdled" loss (obviously Clint is far from their biggest problem this year, but still brings back bad memories of those past-season "it's only one game" losses here and there adding up to trapping us into wildcard losses) . . .

Now I just check the MLB Scoreboard and discover a Pirates 7 - 6, comeback win in the 10th to cap a 5-game sweep that knocks the Brewers out of first place . . .

Holy Shit!!!

A five game sweep of the Brewers is a damn good way to go into the all-star break.

It will give warms feelings after the 10+ game losing streak on the other end of the break :(

It was (I was at the Friday night game...looked like it was the best attended game of the series to me- was loads of fun, even as I felt guilty giving Nutting my money).

However, the team is not fundamentally different from the team that went 9-19 right after it went 12-4 to open the season. Pitching is still a sore spot.

And even with the 6-game win streak...the Pirates are still 9 games out of first and 5.5 games out of a wild card spot.

Maybe the streak will prevent Nut from selling off...maybe not.

6-0 in the 2nd. Homers by Polanco, Dickerson (5th in 4 games), and Marte, plus an RBI single by Moroff.

The Pirates have smashed 26 home runs in July...most in the bigs.

But this streak has been fueled by some excellent pitching too.

Into third place and depending if the A’s can win will pass the Giants as well.

Bob Nutting was spotted earlier today:

The beat goes on...5-0 Buccos in the 4th against Kluber.

Make that 7-0.

Buccos apparently been eating their Wheaties. 9-2 over the Indians through 5, with Marte, Polonco and Bell gone yard. Pirates have hit 22 HR during this streak so far. Dickerson leading off seems to have helped turn on the offensive switch.

Save some for those bastards from Chicago, boys

I was at the game Monday night. Left after the 2nd rain delay but the damage had been done!! Lots of Buccos fans in attendance.

These guys are having fun right now. Out there doing the rain dance Monday. It's great to see. I don't see them making any real noise this year but who knows?? Just win, baby

The one thing we have to remember is how deep a hole they dug themselves in May-June.

That was brought home to me by thinking about this.

We’ve won 11 straight...and we have gained only three games on the division and only two games on a wild-card spot.

I’m loving this...don’t get me wrong...what the team, especially the offense, is doing is unreal.

But there’s a long way to go to make me believe the team can fight for a playoff spot.

Lots of games upcoming against the Cubs, Brewers and Cards, so the Pirates will have plenty of opportunities to answer all their 2018 questions ...

Yesterday Corey had to leave with a hamstring issue and isn’t playing today.

Just now Marte got plunked on the hand with a pitch. Looked painful...at least he’s still in there.

Gotta keep these guys away from injury!

Uh oh...Bad Buccos showing up ealy in this game.

Starling Marte out by a mile on a steal attempt.

Polanco just misplayed a single into a double.

No damage yet- but Bucs don’t looked focused early on.

Trailing for the first time since the Sunday Brewers game.

And Adam Frazier replaced Marte after Marte got bonked on the hand...hmm...

I can set aside my hurdle anger awhile.

Losing Dickerson and Marte didn't help.

But give Bauer credit. He had some electric stuff today...and the one inning he didn't, the ump bailed him out a bit.

Two straight lossed now and while the Cubs (Hamels) and Brewers (Soria) make moves in the division, Neal “I Would Love to Add” Huntington so far has done nothing.

And btw, the players are coming surprisingly cheap...mid-level prospects only.

Phillies’ fans of course are squawking more loudly than Pirates’ fans...and they should...they’re in first place and have some critical needs...another bat and bullpen help.

So in the Bucs’ lineup, the four players you probably wouldn’t want to lose for any length of time are Corey Dickerson, Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco, and/or Josh Bell.

Dickerson’s been nursing a hamstring injury since Monday...Marte got pluked on the hand Tuesday...

...and now Josh Bell has left with side discomfort.

We aimply cannot have nice things.

Raise it, motherf**ers!! Mr. Freese with the walkoff hit to get the Bucs back into the W column -- damn, I'm gulping this Koolaid!

I think it’s more that they have surrendered 16 runs in 2 games to one of the worst-hitting teams in baseball.

But they gutted it out for a much-needed win tonight!

That reall y is a tough question/decision. You have to ask yourself if you really believe they can continue they’re current play and actually contend. I don’t...I don’t think the pitching is good enough.

I don't believe the Bucs will pick up anyone. the recent wins may eliminate the dump, not wanting to further anger the base

Marte was on deck when Freese stroked the game winner yesterday.
Dickerson has a hammy. He could be out for a while, depending on how severe.

Happ and Soria...two 2015 trade deadline acquisitions...would have been two I would have liked to have gotten this year as well.

Soria gets $10 M next year, so that’s too rich for Nutting I guess.

Happ is a rental...he’s UFA for 2019.

Neither cost much by way of prospects given up.

I’m ok with the rotation as is. They will never add a top flight starting pitcher. Knowing that I’d prefer they not address the rotation. If they don’t add a decent reliever though, that would be utter bullshit. This team would be 3 or 4 games better if the bulllpen wasn’t so putrid. The lineup is ok, the rotation is ok, if they bolster the bullpen they would have a fighting chance at stealing the wildcard. Kyle Barraclough and Brad Ziegler are both available from the Marlins. Either of them would improve this bullpen.

This is reasonable. I was stating of all the players that have been moved, Happ and Soria would have been the two I would have liked to have gotten.

Soria especially because the Brewers got him, and we would have strengthened ourselves while not letting them do so. But the $10 M for next year probably scared Nutting away.

Be ready for the bullshit, though...because I can almost guarantee we’re not adding a thing.

Putting aside our collective disdain for the Pirates front office for a minute, what do you think they should do?

Resign. Sorry, I can't put it aside.

Bell to 10 day DL...Osuna called up.

By “bullshit” I’m assuming you mean....”we tried, but just couldn’t make it work”. Right?

I was simply talking about the bullshit of not adding anybody when we’re three games out of a wuld-card slot, but I’m sure Neal will have some such bullshit statement ready.

Will be even more bullshit than usual given how cheap the trades have been.

Oh and BTW...Dickerson to 10 day DL retroactive to the 25th...Meadows up.

So essentially two of our best hitters are out for the Cubs’ and Cardinals’ series.

Yay.
