There's one arm. One year, $8.5 million.

I dunno. Gonna be 38 next season. 8-18 4.59 ERA in '14. I guess we'll see.

A #4 or 5 starter at this point, at best but price was right.

He feels the same way about Pitt vs. Phila that I do.

Not making much and the Pirates need arms. Can't hate it.

How do you not love a guy who gives up 4 m to live in Pittsburgh instead of Philly? Having lived in both, I totally understand.

I was ready for him to part ways with us after 13. But I do welcome him back under these terms. I think he'll pitch better here than in Philly and he turned down 4 mill roughly to play with us, even knowing Martin was not going to be here. Gotta love that. He won't be the ace anymore and he still will probably struggle down the stretch as he did here before, but he'll give us quality innings along the way and you can't beat that.

I like it. One thing about A.J. is he will take the ball. He pitched all year through a hernia. I like having a guy like that, especially at the beginning of the year. You know this is essentially the end of the line for Burnett. You don't have to worry about babying him. You can abuse him physically if you need/want to. If his arm falls off then so be it. You aren't killing his career and you don't have a long term investment in him. Ride him through the aches and pains as long as he is capable of performing adequately. And he won't say no to it.

AGREED

it was a no-brainer signing

He shut down the world champion Giants last year when he pitched for the shitty Phils

AJ is a workhorse -- he proved it again last year, pitching thru an injury and logging huge innings.

Coming back to pitcher friendly PNC, with our better defense and friendlier environment -- I think AJ will thrive much better than he did in Philly

He knows it too - that's why he took almost $5 MILLION LESS to come back and play for us
