I see he's in the HR Derby tonight and did a quick scan of his stats. .312 BA, 13 HR's, .846 OPS. Are these numbers skewed by the dreaded Coors field effect? I didn't take the time to look at his home/road splits.

Point of this post really is, did the Pirates even make him any offer? Did he make any indication that he wanted to return? He just didn't look all that excited here to me last season, but the Davis/Sanchez platoon is horrible and it turns my stomach seeing him in this derby. :(

It might be.

Here's his quad slash line (BA/OBP/SLG/OPS): .312/.345/.502/.847

Here's it split by ballpark (AB included to give you an idea of the sample size), sorted by OPS, then AB:

By Stadium AB AVG OBP SLG OPS
PETCO Park 12 0.417 0.385 0.833 1.218
Great American 10 0.300 0.417 0.700 1.117
Nationals Park 11 0.545 0.545 0.545 1.090
Citizens Bank Park 11 0.273 0.385 0.636 1.021
AT&T Park 18 0.333 0.333 0.611 0.944
Chase Field 12 0.250 0.250 0.667 0.917
Dodger Stadium 19 0.316 0.409 0.474 0.883
Coors Field 181 0.320 0.351 0.514 0.865
Miller Park 12 0.333 0.357 0.417 0.774
Marlins Park 13 0.385 0.385 0.385 0.770
Turner Field 11 0.182 0.250 0.273 0.523
Rangers Ballpark in Arlington 5 0.200 0.200 0.200 0.400
Kauffman Stadium 7 0.143 0.143 0.143 0.286
Progressive Field 11 0.091 0.091 0.091 0.182

His BA at Coors is 6th of all the stadiums, his OBP 7th, and his slugging and OPS 8th.

His is hitting well at most of the stadiums he's visited, but he only has a real sample size at Coors.

His career quad slash is .280/.347/.483 /.830- a lot of that was at the Homer Dome.

So I guess it might not be Coors Field doing it, but who knows?

I thought he was worth a flyer at 1B because we had nobody. But who knows what the Pirates thought?

They didn't. He exuded talent and his didn't fit our model. Now look who we're stuck with.

He couldn't have been out of their price range considering the lackluster finish and postseason. I'll freely admit that he looked washed up to me.

He's having one of his better years thus far in a while, sort of why I was wondering if Coors Field has maybe boosted his numbers

Justin Morneau in the 2nd half of last season is head and shoulders above what Ike Davis and Gaby Sanchez are giving us this season.

Did he sign for some big contract that the Bucs could never afford with Colorado? Just curious.

Colorado is not a "rich" team or big time free agency player, are they?
