Post subject:  1971 World Series: Buccos Glory!

The Great One has his opportunity, at last, to showcase his magnificent ability and talent and presence on a national stage. Danny Murtaugh, overlooked by Hall of Fame voters, defeats his second Hall of Fame manager in a championship series, for the World Series crown. O's and Earl Weaver heavily favored, and The Irishman and The Great One and cast showed the world who was greater.

Curt Gowdy doing this legendary thing as the play-by-play announcer throughout the series.

Each team won at home through the first 6 games, with the Buccos down 2-0 in the series headed back to Pittsburgh, but we sweep the 3 at home. Nail-biting last two games in Baltimore with the 10 inning victory in game 6, and the Buccos winning a 2-1 squeaker in the 7th game, the only game won by the visiting team in the series. Tip my hat to this team, one of 3 championship teams we fielded in 2 decades of quality Pittsburgh baseball. Those were the days. And great memories.
