Tying anything meaningful to the results of an exhibition game is so stupid that it doesn't even need to be debated, Jeems.

Yeah, you're right. Home field for the World Series is meaningless.

Who claimed it was meaningless?

And actually, if they want to avoid ties, the rule change to make is simple...free substitution.

They already have limited free substitution (catchers can come back into the game if injury warrants it, and each manager can designate four players (I think), to be able to sub back in.

Not meaningless. Stupid. But not meaningless.

then again, Josh Harrison shouldnt have been on the team.

Wrong. Late in a game, a guy who can play four positions (five in a pinch) is invaluable to sub in. And he's about the best at that there currently is.

IMO

That's hindsight.

The premise of the OP is the rules have to be changed again as to how the starting pitcher is selected.

And there was not that much difference between Wainwright and Kershaw coming in to warrant that assertion. It's not like Matheny picked scrub Cardinal pitching over genuine All Stars. Wainwright is an excellent pitcher....deserving of a starting nod.

The rule that has to be changed is to tie home field for the World Series to the All Star Game. That is just silly in a game where players are voted in by the fans. It's an exhibition...let it stay that.

There was nothing wrong with the tie game in 2002. So what? Who cares? There had already been a tied All Star Game in the past (1961).

What was wrong were the MLB bigwigs standing around with their thumbs up their asses looking like fools because no one thought ahead to the possibility that situation might happen. They should have been FIRED for that, instead of being lauded for "making the All Star Game relevant" again.

Kershaw is DOMINATING again this year -- leads all of baseball in ERA, whip and K's per 9 innings, and leads the NL in K-to-walk ratio and fewest walks per 9 innings.

Basically, he leads in every single pitching statistical category that matters.

And he's thrown an almost perfect game this year (if not for a horrible error by Hanley).

If I had to have a guy to win a game for me, it would be an easy decision -- Kershaw over Wainwright every single time - it's not even close.

And Wainwright's numbers are only slightly less dominating.

You're speaking from hindsight and the fact you want to diss Matheney.

And the fact is, these guys go one inning...two at most...so who knows what would have happened had you reversed the order?
