Yeah but the dude admitted he was grooving pitches for Jeter.

Yeah- that I have an issue with (if the World Series didn't depend on the outcome, I wouldn't have minded if he threw underhand to Jeter otherwise).

But that STILL doesn't mean Matheny made a choice so obviously bad they should change the rules yet again.

Matheny chose him because he's a Cardinal. He's a great pitcher. It's really no big deal.

I laugh my ass off if the WS comes down to a game 7 and the Cards lose on the road. With the DH driving in multiple runs.

Dumbfuck move, Wainwright.

Wainwright is a pussy for giving the game away intentionally.

Sad thing is, he got paid to do so. Cardinals pitching gave the AL the game.

Yes...it is close.

GP GS CG SHO IP H R ER HR BB SO W L P/GS WHIP BAA ERA
267 204 19 8 1452.2 1320 523 483 98 363 1242 111 61 101.3 1.16 .243 2.99

Which numbers belong to which pitcher? There's no statistically significant difference between these numbers.

Results pretty much spoke for themselves. Dodgers pitching produced, in the game, at a much better clip.

That's hindsight.

The premise of the OP is the rules have to be changed again as to how the starting pitcher is selected.

And there was not that much difference between Wainwright and Kershaw coming in to warrant that assertion. It's not like Matheny picked scrub Cardinal pitching over genuine All Stars. Wainwright is an excellent pitcher....deserving of a starting nod.

The rule that has to be changed is to tie home field for the World Series to the All Star Game. That is just silly in a game where players are voted in by the fans. It's an exhibition...let it stay that.

There was nothing wrong with the tie game in 2002. So what? Who cares? There had already been a tied All Star Game in the past (1961).

What was wrong were the MLB bigwigs standing around with their thumbs up their asses looking like fools because no one thought ahead to the possibility that situation might happen. They should have been FIRED for that, instead of being lauded for "making the All Star Game relevant" again.
