At Great American Ball Park
Game time: 12:35PM ET
Probable starters:
PIT: Ivan Nova (3-2, 1.50 ERA)
CIN: Tim Adleman (0-1, 4.70 ERA)

Quote:
Pirates right-hander Ivan Nova, the reigning National League Pitcher of the Month, will take the mound for the first time in May as the Bucs and Reds wrap up a four-game series Thursday afternoon at Great American Ball Park.

Nova, who posted a 1.50 ERA and two complete games last month, has walked one or fewer batters in 16 consecutive starts, a streak dating back to Aug. 6, 2016. That is the longest streak in franchise history since Babe Adams did so in 17 straight games from July 1, 1922-May 7, 1923.

"He's in complete trust of his stuff on the mound now," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "Those aren't concerns anymore, not walking somebody. That's not in his mindset out there. He's out there to throw strikes, make them swing the bat, get quick contact and find outs."
Nova will line up against Reds starter Tim Adleman, making his third career start against the Pirates. Adleman struggled with his command and got hit hard by the Cardinals in his second start of the season on Friday, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits and a walk over 5 1/3 innings.

Things to know about this game

• It's likely that catcher Tucker Barnhart will be behind the plate Thursday after Devin Mesoraco started two games in a row. Reds manager Bryan Price would like to see Mesoraco, coming back from right hip and left shoulder surgeries, catch each starter once over a 10-day period to split up the workload with Barnhart. There won't be a primary or backup catcher, however, as both are expected to play.

• Nova tossed a "Maddux" in his last start, throwing 95 pitches during a three-hit, seven-strikeout shutout. One key was Nova's ability to get outs on the first pitch. Nine times, the Marlins made an out on Nova's 0-0 pitch, six of them on ground balls and one of those a double play. No other pitcher this season has racked up more than six first-pitch outs in a game.

• Price is fully supportive of reliever Blake Wood, who entered Wednesday with a 4.63 ERA in 13 games. Specifically, Price still believes in Wood's arsenal.

"I would say overall pitch quality hasn't been quite as good. But his stuff is still plenty good," Price said. "He still has a good slider, split [fingered fastball], his fastball velocity and movement. He still has all the weapons that he needs."

Bucs lose 4-2.

Fuck you, Nutting and Huntington. You too, Coonelly.

I'll continue to create the threads realizing the focus is on the Penguins who actually give a shit about winning.
