All HS players this time. A switch from previous drafts.

Quote:
12. Pittsburgh Pirates: RHP Shane Baz, Concordia Lutheran (Texas) HS
Callis: Baz might have the deepest repertoire in the Draft: He has a mid-90s fastball along with a cut fastball that can be unhittable. The cutter can turn it into a true slider and he can also spin a distinctly different curve, not to mention the makings of the changeup. He is another intriguing two-way player as a power-hitting third baseman, though he's definitely a pitcher as a pro.

Quote:
42. Pittsburgh Pirates (Compensation for not signing 2016 No. 41 overall pick Nick Lodolo): RHP Steve Jennings, DeKalb County (Tenn.) HS

Quote:
Steve Jennings is one of my favorite stories in the Draft. He's a star quarterback who tore his ACL in September but was back on the mound this spring. There were times when he showed a plus fastball-slider combination. His other pitches are promising, and he's a good athlete. ...

Quote:
50. Pittsburgh Pirates: OF Cal Mitchell, Rancho Bernardo (Calif.) HS

72. Pittsburgh Pirates: OF Conner Uselton, Southmoore (Okla.) HS
A former college football prospect as a quarterback, Conner Uselton gave up the gridiron to focus on baseball. His bat speed, strength and leverage give him tremendous raw power. He showed improved hitting skills this spring. With his cannon arm and solid speed, he's an asset on defense as well.

Quote:
Pittsburgh Pirates: Three of my top 22 players

The Pirates' three picks on Day 1 all ranked in my top 22 players: Shane Baz (No. 11), Conner Uselton (No. 20) and Stephen Jennings (No. 22), the last one the biggest surprise because teams had indicated that they didn't think he'd still be available in the second round, where the Pirates took him. Baz went about where he was expected to go, 12th overall, but the other two appeared to be first-round talents -- Uselton because he can hit and at worst should be an above-average defender in an outfielder corner, Jennings because he's a very athletic kid who got off to a slow start in the spring after coming back in just six months from a torn ACL. That's a great haul, assuming Pittsburgh signs them all, given that their second pick didn't come until No. 42. They even added Calvin Mitchell, a prep first baseman who was supposed to be a plus hit guy but struggled at the plate this spring relative to expectations, with their other second-round pick.

I'm glad nobody has drafted the child molester, Luke Heimlich yet.

Fucker admitted to sexually assaulting a 6 year old female family member when he was 15. It went on for two years from ages 4-6.

He went undrafted.

Good.

My son played left field for Notre Dame Sherman Oaks in his day. Green went to Cincinnati yesterday and his 100 MPH fastball went with him. Power hitter as well.
Kevin hit a homer in AAU ball the same game that John Elway did.
