One question I always had, though...how come this clause in the Expansion Draft rules didn't apply to Murray?

Quote:
All first- and second-year professionals, as well as all unsigned draft choices, will be exempt from selection (and will not be counted toward their club's applicable protection limits).

https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-expansion- ... -281010592

Shouldn't Murray have been exempt (like guys like Guentzel were?) or did this clause not apply to goaltenders?

BTW, I'm sure this has been explained before. If so, I missed it and apolgize if it has.

Edit- never mind- I discovered on my own that "professional" includes seasons played at the AHL level.

My guess is that since all teams were required to expose at least one goalie, that requirement supersedes any possible exemptions.

Nevermind - just saw your edit, Jeems.

As predicted the Penguins had to give a draft pick away to ensure the safety of their other non protected assets. Two days ago you scoffed at that notion.

Want to outline where I scoffed at that? I don't believe I said any such thing

I maintained there was an agreement in place in Feb

A second-round draft pick three years from now.

That's all it took to keep Vegas from taking anyone but MAF.

That means they weren't really that upset about passing up Rust for MAF.

Um...where did they get the Pens' 2nd round pick in 2017 and 4th round pick in 2018?

All I saw was a second round pick in 2020 for Fleury.

They got the 2017 pick from Carolina (Ron Hainsey trade). The 4th rounder next year came from Tampa (Streit trade).

No. What this means is the Penguins had the same feeling as I did... that Vegas may have been inclined to go another direction with their selection. Or do you think the Penguins are just really charitable and felt like throwing away a draft pick?
