Which...one, is ridiculous, and two....shouldn't even really matter in this case. Sully and JR got this team to the second best record in the entire league despite a ridiculous number of injuries.

For neither of those guys to win, much less not even be in the running, is criminal.

Agreed on both accounts.

Voting should take place after the season is through. A vote only requires a few moments of everyone's time, not months in advance.

Thank God they do all of the voting before the season is over. McDavid performed exceptionally well throughout the season, and did play rather well in the playoffs. In 13 games, he had 5 goals and 4 assists (9 points) in 291 TOI. Compare that to Kunitz who had 297 Toi and had 2 goals and 9 assists (11 points). Take our Guentzel for example, he had 13 foals and 8 assists on 437 TOI

PLAYER POS TEAM GP G A PTS +/- PIM SOG PCT WG TOI
Connor McDavid C EDM 13 5 4 9 3 2 37 13.5 0 291:20
Jake Guentzel C PIT 25 13 8 21 1 10 52 25 5 437:29
Evgeni Malkin C PIT 25 10 18 28 9 53 60 16.7 0 451:37
Sidney Crosby C PIT 24 8 19 27 4 10 63 12.7 0 465:32

How about Murray for Calder? Even if voting takes place during season... here were his statistics at time of voting:

83G 81Starts 56-18-5 180GA 6SH 2.21 GAA, .924 save pct, 15 SCP wins, 1 Cup

Since we're piling on: Karlsson should have won the Norris over Burns. Yes, Burns has the slight edge as a scorer, but Karlsson is head and shoulders better in terms of puck possession and his play defensively.

Not to mention, Karlsson carried the Sens through the playoffs (I know that doesn't count).

Yeah, I was surprised by the Norris results. Thought Karlsson was a shoe in to win. Burns had that 6 week period where he was putting up incredible numbers. I'd rather have Hedman then Burns also.

This is why I have little use for awards in any sport....comes under Who Gives a Fuck category for me (though one might rightly ask why I then created this OP).

While I understand limiting the votes to regular season results in order to make it apples to apples for not all team make playoffs or extend their season very far into the playoffs....to ignore playoff results, well, de-legitimizes the award. Voters should just ignore that Matt Murray won two Cups in two playoff runs??

Even not taking the playoffs into account, the most egregious snubs were for Rutherford and Sullivan.

The Penguins had numerous injuries ALL SEASON LONG...and yet finished with the second-best record in the NHL and were within striking distance of the President's Trophy until the last week of the season...playing in what can be argued was the toughest division in the NHL (Washiongton, Columbus, and the Rangers all had 102 or more points...that's half the division right there).

For me it has to do with the length of the playoff run. That's almost a quarter of the season, if I did my math right. How can that be ignored?
