At Busch Stadium
Game time: 7:15PM ET
Probable starters:
PIT: Gerrit Cole (5-6, 4.28 ERA)
MIL: Lance Lynn (5-4, 3.33 ERA)

Quote:
Following a troubling four-game stretch, Gerrit Cole has rebounded his past two starts and appears to be back in form. The Pirates right-hander (5-6, 4.28 ERA) will look to maintain his success and extend his winning streak to three games Saturday against Lance Lynn and the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

In Cole's four starts from May 22 through June 8, he gave up 23 runs in 19 1/3 innings, elevating his ERA to 4.83. But he has been solid since then, giving up just three hits and one run in seven innings in both of his past two outings. And even including the rough four-start stretch, he has given up more than two earned runs in just six starts this season.

He took the loss in his only start against the Cardinals this season despite allowing just two earned runs in six innings on April 19. He was outdueled by Michael Wacha.

He'll face a different pitcher this time around in Lynn, who is set to make his 15th start this season. The right-hander struggled in his last start, giving up nine hits, seven runs and a season-high four home runs in 4 2/3 innings against the Orioles.

Lynn (5-4, 3.33 ERA) has performed well against the Pirates in his career and has not allowed a run in his past 12 innings against them. He fired seven scoreless innings in a 2-1 win against them on April 17 at Busch Stadium.

Pitching seven innings, however, has been a rarity for Lynn. He has made it through seven or more frames just twice this season, and the last time he made it more than 5 1/3 innings was on May 23.

Things to know about this game

• Center fielder Dexter Fowler and catcher Yadier Molina are expected to be back in the lineup for the Cardinals on Saturday after being held out Friday due to minor injuries. Molina had knee soreness after being hit with a foul tip in Thursday's game, while Fowler was still dealing with left quad tightness.

• Lynn is 4-0 with a 1.59 ERA in seven starts against NL Central opponents this season, making him the only pitcher in the Majors with four or more wins against the division this year to have a perfect record.

• Cole has a 12-3 career record in the month of June (18 starts), and he's 3-1 in four starts so far this month.

Woot! Joltin' Jordy Mercer with a 2-run bomb in the 4th puts the Buccos up 3 - 1. Like to see Cole take advantage of a little lead and continue his recent departure from his penchant for 4th- or 5th-inning crap-outs . . .

Beat em Bucs!

So far, so good, but 82 pitches through 5...looks like another 6 inning outing and then we'll sweat through the bullpen...
