Bozak would be an awesome get.

I can't imagine that happening. Too many teams starved for a center help. No way Toronto would deal him to the team that is blocking their path.

Yup. Agreed. But how many years left does Letang have?

On his contract-5 more years.
He is thirty years old. Malkin is about to turn 31 this month and Crosby 30 next month. Hence, why we call them the core because once the prime years are over the Pens likely will be hurting a bit.
BUT THAT IS 2-3 YEARS DOWN THE ROAD.

Reasonable salary, and the Pens probably had to keep the term down to three years to make it happen. All in all, it's a fair deal for both sides.

Is this a sign and trade possibility?
Personally I think they overpaid.

I was thinking the arbitration award would have been higher than 3 mill. I think some member of the forward group is the most tradable asset in the hunt for a Bonino replacement.

Other teams (particularly those without a Sprong or Aston-Reese waiting in the wings) might see that contract as pretty good value in a trade.

Also, we now know the exact amount of cap room left for the season, with all the major spots except for 3C and maybe a returning Cullen signed and in place.

I hear there are bonino's in Saskatchewan, but you have to bring special traps.

Ha!

The cap space available, assuming 1.5 million for a Cullen return, and a million or so of wiggle room for call ups, etc, is about 700,000 for a 3C. That's not much.

Add to that the fact that someone is going to have to make it through waivers from the forward group if Cullen comes back (more than one if Sprong or Aston-Reese sticks with the big club), and you would think a forward would have to be shipped out at some point.

Unfortunately, I agree. I like Sheary, but Crosby makes him look 10x better than he is.
