They made Recchi the new assistant coach of the Pens.

Good for Rick. He certainly earned it.

I expect little to no drop off with the Recchin Ball at the helm now. He's got a great hockey mind and is more than ready to coach.

Tocchet is a good guy. I hope this second go around turns out better for him.

I'm assuming Recchi will take over the PP so it will be interesting to see if any changes are made.

Glad for Tocchet. Thank you for your service and come back when that shitty team costs you your job.

Talent exodus and now the coach that did a fabulous job with the Pens' PP.

Still many weeks between now and the start of next season so anything can happen...but if the Pens come anywhere close to three-peating, Mike Sullivan will be nominated for Godhood.

I wouldn't call it a talent exodus. Sure Bonino and Fleury hurt and maybe Daley to a small degree. Reaves will fill the Kunitz role fine and RF took care of the goaltender backup position.
The Pens resigned Pouliot so they must still consider him a part of the future.
If Cullen comes back that will be big so RF can concentrate on acquiring a third C. Throw in Sprong and the top 6 is sitting very pretty.

I think a 3 peat depends on health and if they(team) really want to do something extraordinary/legendary.

I think Crosby is still "hungry". He understands how legendary it would be to get a three-peat. It's something Mario never did! The added new blood will help with motivation as well. I think Sullivan will lean on some of the younger guys from the AHL early to help keep guys fresher for the playoff run. Going this deep into the playoff wears on the body and takes months to recuperate, let alone two years in a row. My biggest concern is Kessel. We gotta find a line for him, preferably away from Malkin. He and Malkin just don't mix well. The HBK line was lightening in a bottle two years ago - not sure why they went away from it last year. Third line duties were perfect for him as it took all of the pressure off of him and let him regain his joy for the game. This year playing with Malkin, I saw some of that enjoyment disappear, and with it, his production. Maybe it was just me, but I don't think his style fits well with Malkin.

Crosby just started to train again this week.
Speaking of the captain it will take more than his desires to 3peat, just like it took the whole team to win back to back. Malkin has already spoken of being the first Russian born player to win 4 cups. He is just as important to the teams fortunes as is Crosby.

As far the HBK line goes-they were magic two years ago but it got stale. When Sullivan went back to it this year on occasion the spark wasn't there. I think the blame goes to Bonino who was more inconsistent this year than last year.

My biggest gripe with Lemieux was the fact that he only won two cups as a player. I know it takes more than him but that team was loaded. Of course Stevens injury out of the blue was huge and might have broken the teams spirit but they had their chances after that. That is why I'm so proud of this current team. They just never quit and they find the WAY to overcome every obstacle.

I think it is less than a 100 days until the season starts.
