At PNC Park
Game time: 7:05PM ET
Probable starters:
STL: Lance Lynn (7-6, 3.61 ERA)
PIT: Jameson Taillon (5-2, 2.73 ERA)

Quote:
Jameson Taillon has excelled since returning to the Pirates' rotation, but he was scratched from his scheduled start against the Cubs last Sunday due to food poisoning. So the right-hander will be on 10 days' rest entering his start against righty Lance Lynn and the Cardinals on Saturday at PNC Park.

Taillon has posted a 1.98 ERA in his five starts after undergoing surgery for testicular cancer, allowing six earned runs in 27 1/3 innings. He tossed five scoreless frames and struck out a career-high nine batters in his last start against the Phillies on July 4. But he's had to wait a while for his next start.

"You've got to go out, stay with your routine every fifth day and stay as consistent as you can," Taillon said. "That's the name of the game up here -- consistent routine, consistent work, consistent performance. Keep your head down and knock some starts out."

Lynn also notched a scoreless outing in his last start on Sunday, limiting the Mets to three hits in seven innings. But he surrendered seven earned runs on
six hits over 5 2/3 innings in his last start against the Pirates on June 24.

Things to know about this game

• Taillon used his curveball to punch out six batters in his last start. His curveball has been effective all season, with opponents hitting just .196 in at-bats that end in that pitch.

• After going 1-for-3 on Friday, Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen is closing in on 1,400 career hits and has the opportunity to reach the milestone on Saturday. He'll enter the game with 1,398.

• Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong is still looking for his first hit since being activated from the disabled list on Thursday. He went 0-for-3 against the Pirates on Friday.

As a T-Mobile subscriber, I've had it free for the past two years.

And thank God I didn't have to pay for it!
