At PNC Park
Game time: 1:35PM ET
Probable starters:
STL: Carlos Martinez (6-8, 3.40 ERA)
PIT: Trevor Williams (3-4, 4.80 ERA)

Quote:
Carlos Martinez had been an All-Star before, but he had never appeared in the actual game. That changed on Tuesday, when the right-hander tossed two scoreless innings for the National League and became the first Cardinals pitcher to strike out four batters in the Midsummer Classic since Dizzy Dean did it in 1934. Martinez will try to build on his strong All-Star Game performance when he starts against Trevor Williams and the Pirates on Sunday at PNC Park.

"Carlos, like always, was electric," his teammate and fellow All-Star Yadier Molina said. "It was fun to watch."

Martinez notched 12 quality starts en route to becoming an All-Star, but he labored in his past two starts, coughing up 10 earned runs on 14 hits in 10 innings.

Williams, meanwhile, will be making his first career start against the Cardinals. He notched quality starts in three of his past four outings, but he allowed three earned runs in 3 2/3 innings in his last start against the Cubs on July 7.

Things to know about this game

• Pirates first baseman Josh Bell's high batting average and on-base percentage in the Minors haven't quite carried over to the Majors, but he's still hitting well against pitches inside the zone. According to Statcast, Bell is hitting .275 and slugging .540 against pitches inside the zone, which is better than the league average of .502. But Bell's tendency to swing at pitches outside the zone has hurt his overall average. He is hitting just .163 (15-of-92) on pitches outside the zone.

• Martinez has dominated the hot-hitting Andrew McCutchen, holding him to a .194 average and .641 OPS in 35 career plate appearances. The Cards righty has had less success against Gregory Polanco, who enters Sunday with a .524/.655/.905 slash line in 29 plate appearances against Martinez.

• Before right-hander Lance Lynn tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings on Saturday, the Cardinals' starting pitchers had struggled on the road, posting a 3-8 record and 6.19 ERA (64 ER/93 IP) in the last 18 road games.

This team can make a run at the division if the management and ownership provide an everyday 3rd baseman and a legit set up man to pair with Big Juan and Filthy Felipe

Lets Go Bucs

7/18 is the return of #6 to the lineup ;)
