At PNC Park
Game time: 12:35PM ET
Probable starters:
MIL: Jimmy Nelson (8-4, 3.27 ERA)
PIT: Jameson Taillon (5-3, 3.06 ERA)

Quote:
On a four-game winning streak, the Pirates will go for a crucial sweep of the Brewers on Thursday afternoon at PNC Park.

Milwaukee, who has lost four straight, has seen its National League Central lead dwindle to 1 1/2 games during its skid. Although Pittsburgh is a game under .500, they are right in the thick of the race, four games behind the Brewers in third.

In the midst of impressive seasons, right-handers Jameson Taillon and Jimmy Nelson will square off in the finale.

Taillon coughed up four earned runs in five innings on Saturday against the Cardinals, but he still holds a 2.78 ERA in six starts since undergoing surgery for testicular cancer.

The Pirates right-hander is yet to face the Brewers this season, but he made four starts against them last season as a rookie. He has a 3.86 ERA against Milwaukee, having allowed nine earned runs in 21 innings. Five of those runs came in one start, though. The other three saw him throw six impressive innings. Even with the relatively low ERA, Taillon is 0-2 in those four starts.

Nelson's last start at PNC Park was cut short due to a two-hour rain delay. He has posted a 2.68 ERA in 13 starts since he last faced the Pirates. Nelson has started six day games this season and has thrived, registering a 1.58 ERA.

Three things to know about this game

• Nelson's 26-percent called-strike rate in his last start was his highest of the season and second-highest of his career, for a game with at least 50 pitches. A career-high 16 of his called strikes came on pitches in the upper two-thirds of the strike zone.

• Brewers third baseman Travis Shaw has made pitchers pay for leaving pitches elevated in the zone. According to Statcast, Shaw is hitting .364 (43-for-118) and slugging .703 against pitches in the upper half of the zone, which are better than the league averages of .301 and .537, respectively.

• Pirates first baseman Josh Bell is expected to return to the lineup after a scheduled off-day on Wednesday. Bell is hitting .288/.362/.519 with seven extra-base hits in that span.

What the ?? Am I the only one around here with a phoney baloney-enough job to watch parts of the game during work hours?

Anyway, get that f'in broom out for the f'in Brewers! What a huge sweep! Pirates might not make it to the big dance but these past 2 weeks sure have turned a loser of a season into a contest.

3 back! Beat em Bucs!!

Now on the weekend we have a chance to drill into the wild card lead as well.

Jack, you lucky s.o.b., sounds great. Are you on the beach or up in the mountains? Either way, enjoy!

Meanwhile, look out, Rockies. Then some payback is due in Frisco next week for the drubbing we took earlier this season . . .

33k souls graced the gates at PNC Park today for a business man's special - take good notice Asshat Nutting.

If you don't go all in on giving this team a shot at winning a DIVISION TITLE in a year where it is wide fucking open it will tell the truest tale of all in the sad saga that has been your tenure as owner of this proud franchise.

This was a baseball town long before our beloved Steelers were worth a shit and long before the Pens came into existence.

There is absolutely no excuse not to acquire a veteran starter to supplant the staff and add on a couple of swing and miss arms for the pen on rental rates in the 1-2 million range for the stretch run.

48-48 and 3 games back on 7/20 puts you firmly in position to secure a PLAYOFF SERIES that this town will embrace whole heartedly.

Make it fucking happen Nutt Bag.

Bullpen Targets :

Addison Reed

Brad Hand

Pat Neshek

Joe Smith

Brad Bach

Starting Pitchers :

Rejuvenated Jeff Samardzija

Scan toward the Mets and see what it would take to grab Steven Matz, he is on the rise and they have a plethora of arms on hand currently and looking to dump salary on top of Bruce and Granderson giant contracts.

If they truly can't get Jung Ho Kang a visa... then I would like to see a move for another dependable reliever and a bat who can play third and another infield position. Troy Tulowitzki is apparently available-- if the BlueJays sweeten the pot with some cash, that deal makes sense.
