At Coors Field
Game time: 3:10PM ET
Probable starters:
PIT: Ivan Nova (10-6, 3.27 ERA)
COL: Kyle Freeland (9-7, 3.67 ERA)

Quote:
The Pirates and Rockies will wrap up their season series Sunday, with both teams looking to keep pressure on their opponents in the playoff chase.

The Pirates will turn to Ivan Nova, one of the few pitchers on their roster with postseason experience. Nova got off to a hot start to the season, winning NL Pitcher of the Month for April, but has struggled a bit recently, posting a 4.30 ERA over his past six starts.

Opposing him for the Rockies will be Kyle Freeland, who is making his first start since taking a no-hitter into the ninth vs. the White Sox on July 9. Freeland made one relief appearance since that start, throwing three hitless innings against the Mets on July 15.

Three things to know about this game

• Nova has made three career starts against the Rockies, all of which came while he was with the Yankees. He has given up 14 earned runs in 15 innings, and only one of those three starts came at Coors Field.

• Six active Rockies have a career batting average at .500 or higher vs. Nova: Charlie Blackmon, DJ LeMahieu, Nolan Arenado, Ian Desmond, Gerardo Parra and Carlos Gonzalez. LeMahieu leads the pack with an .800 mark (4-for-5).

• Freeland made one start against the Pirates earlier this season -- one he'd probably like to forget. The rookie left-hander gave up five runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings in a 7-4 loss.

Same story, different week.

Close in on the Brewers and then lose 2 in a row badly.

I expected this from Kuhl, but not from Nova. Not giving up yet, but yeah, disheartening. We're on to San Francisco.

eh, it's some reversion to the mean. They have been kicking the Rockies' asses for 4 years now.
