At PNC Park
Game time: 7:05PM ET
Probable starters:
CIN: Homer Bailey (2-5, 8.37 ERA)
PIT: Jameson Taillon (6-4, 4.03 ERA)

Quote:
The Reds and Pirates will meet up on Tuesday following the non-waiver Trade Deadline to open a three-game series at PNC Park. Cincinnati's Homer Bailey will oppose Pittsburgh's Jameson Taillon.

Bailey is seven starts into a comeback from Feb. 18 elbow surgery -- his third elbow procedure since August 2014 -- that removed bone chips. In a 9-5 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday, he was burned by soft hits that found holes as he surrendered seven runs (five earned) over six-plus innings. Nine of the 10 hits he allowed were singles.

Taillon is coming off of a rough start and 11-3 loss to the Giants on Tuesday when he gave up 10 runs (nine earned) on nine hits over three innings. He last faced the Reds on May 3 at Great American Ball Park, permitting six earned runs on eight hits over five innings for a 7-2 loss.

Shortly after that start, Taillon was diagnosed and treated for testicular cancer and missed six weeks. He is 4-3 with a 4.65 ERA in eight starts since returning, but he has allowed just one home run.

Three things to know about this game

• In nine career starts at PNC Park, Bailey is 5-2 with a 2.58 ERA. The most memorable of those starts came on Sept. 28, 2012, when Bailey threw the first of his two career no-hitters in a 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh.

• Andrew McCutchen has practically played a season's worth of career games (142) against the Reds. In those games, McCutchen is batting .264/.385/.488 with 28 home runs and 73 RBIs. In seven games against Cincinnati in 2017, he has two homers.

• Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco was limited to hitting duty on Sunday because of a sore right knee that forced him out of Saturday's game versus the Marlins. Mesoraco will be re-evaluated before determining whether he can catch on Tuesday.

The Pirates are an awful, awful franchise.

Until Nutting sells the team (or dies) they won't be legit contenders to win another World Series.
