Interesting reading/numbers.

I took a look at the last 10 World Series winners and compared their opening day payrolls to the Pirates payrolls during the same year.

CHI CUBS +$31M over the Pirates starting Payroll in 2016 /KC ROYALS +$25M /SF +$76M
BOS +$71M /SF +$54M /STL +$59M /SF +$63M /NYY +$153M /PHI +$50M /BOS +$105M

That's a combined $687M more that was spent than what the Pirates payroll was over the past 10 years on opening day.

CHI started as the 14th highest payroll when they won in 2016, adding +54M and jumping to #8 highest overall 2017 opening day. KC was the 16th highest payroll in 2015 and spent $1M less coming into 2016. They finished at .500 -13.5 back.

The rest of the teams were top 12 payrolls opening day.

just shows what a cheap miser we have writing checks..if he cant play with the big dogs paying folks or even sniff them he should give up his gig to someone who likes to compete..

Astros traded for Verlander...that cost them money AND top prospects.

This, from a team that already has Keuchel and McCullers.

Neal's head must have exploded.
