cant win with goal tending like that..not saying its 100 percent him but hes sucked ass so far. giving murray a night off cant be an automatic loss like it has been so far. bring up a young guy..

Offense is up all over the league.

There was a great analysis that showed this was in part due to teams pushing for offense by having their guys create “unscripted offensive chances”...i.e. going away from traditional concepts and applying more offensive pressure on the goal.

Malkin’s game winner against the Rangers was an example of this. Once the Rangers got possession of the puck behind the goal, traditional play would have had Kessel and Malkin fall back.

Instead, Kessel pressured the puck, and Malkin camped by the goal on the other side.

The drawback of unscripted offense is if the play breaks down, teams may get an odd man rush the other way, but teams like the Pens think they can get away with this because their team speed lets them get back up ice if the play breaks down.

All this said...Niemi sucks ass. Cut him.

I read this article as well.
Offense is usually up to start the season. Only teams with something to prove from the prior year come out playing at full caliber.
Potash interviewed Stralman b/n periods last night. He said that the team is taking every game seriously because the Bolts missed the playoffs by one point last year. Good luck with that, it is a near impossibility to keep it at full bore.

Not worried about the Pens-like I said last week they are only playing at 75% at this juncture. And they realized the issue at Center 3 and made a move though it might take more than that.

Niemi is the current problem and surely the Pens will shore this issue up.

I’m not worried either. They started similarly last season. Porous defense and winning games with offense. That went on for about 25 games before they started to tighten things up defensively.

They'll give niemi a couple more starts to verify what they see. He can clear waivers with a minimal cap hit

Jarry will be brought up and he'll be fine, even though De Smith has been better

I don't see the Pens spending assets on a backup G this season, especially since the 3c issue may not be solved

Pens play a normal schedule next week and don't have a back to back until November 2nd. So we probably won't see Niemi until then.

With so much wing depth including in the minors, the re-emergence of Connor Sheary on SIDS line, the Pens need to move Jake Guentzel to 3C, move Sheahan to 4C and bring up one of these kids soon.

Too early to move Guentzel away from Sid. Those two have a bond/chemistry that is natural.
McKegg will be a good fourth line center. His speed and effort will serve him better there.
