I posted this in the other thread- guess I was a bit off:

Quote:
They'll give niemi a couple more starts to verify what they see. He can clear waivers with a minimal cap hit

Jarry will be brought up and he'll be fine, even though De Smith has been better

I don't see the Pens spending assets on a backup G this season, especially since the 3c issue may not be solved

Jarry certainly can't do much worse.

But the idea that the front office felt the need to go sign a goalie this past offseason instead of handing the job to him outright does make me a little nervous.

I just think they didn't like the idea of Jarry
Sitting out everyday - he needs to play to get better and mature

But Niemi left them no choice - he's done

That's the lot of it. Is Jarry NHL ready? Yup

Did it make sense for his development to ride pine in the NHL? No, but the circumstances have changed and sometimes the org's needs supersede individual development.

What a three game career as a Penguin!

I figured that they would give him a few more starts but they see him everyday in practice and the classroom. They must have figured they got it all wrong with Niemi and cut him loose.

Figured it would be DeSmith. Been playing pretty well. Jarry has not.

Didn’t Niemi have a good run with Chicago? Don’t really feel too bad for him.

Let’s see what DeSmith has.

Just watch his progressive film from past 5 yrs.....falling off a cliff eventually comes

His play this year wouldn't pass muster in the old uhl....which was a glorified men's league

True, but I don't think DeSmith is an NHL level goalie. But maybe it wasn't about that and moreso ensuring Jarry got some work.

I think you're absolutely right, Donnie. A) Jarry needs more games period, record notwithstanding. Wasn't going to get that backing up MM. B) Taking a guy struggling a little at the AHL level and bringing him up to the big show is a developmental no-no, as well. Pens have been very smart with their young talent the last several years, and this is yet another example.
