Stumbled on this great vocalese take by Jon Hendricks from 1990. He (Coltrane) and Bobby McFerrin (Wyn Kelly) and Al Jarreau (Davis) and George Benson (Adderly) basically do note for note vocal improvisations from Miles Davis' original Freddie Freeloader:

I've owned Wayne Shorter's Speak No Evil, Ju Ju, and some others for years. Finally got around to plunking down the dollars for the recent Blue Note reissue of Night Dreamer on LP. Pure jazz fire.

Lee Morgan on trumpet
Elvin Jones on drums
McCoy Tyner on piano
Reggie Workman on bass

Buy without delay.

Has anyone here tried HDTracks.com? They have pretty much flawless samples from the original masters. If you're curious you can download free samples play them back and notice the difference. Sonny Rollins' St. Thomas is one of them.

Dan, I have not tried HDTracks myself. I wonder I could tell the difference.

Sélébéyone is not going to be for everyone. I think it is pretty exhilarating, from what I have so far heard, as far as rap-jazz hybrid projects go. The Antipop Consortium / Matthew Shipo LP was ok. It was adventurous, but just not very pleasing. Sélébéyone seems pretty good and it is definitely jazz with rapping (and features High Priest from Antipop). And I mean out there jazz, not shitty acid-jazz.
