The jury awarded Hogan $55 million for economic injuries and $60 million for emotional distress. Those same jurors will reconvene next week to consider punitive damages on top of the $115 million already awarded.

Gawker was always playing with fire in regards to standards and decency. They finally got burned.

I'm a big first Amendment fan but I like the verdict. This is one situation where the fourth and reasonable expectation of privacy should win.

I've been hearing snippets of this case. Gawker lawyers brought up penis length claiming 10 inches, to which Terry responded, he is in fact not that well endowed, but the Hulkster is.

Just looked up the picture of the girl in question....pretty damn hot.

But the ruling makes sense. Whether or not Hogan knew he was being recorded, he pretty clearly didn't consent to it. And you shouldn't be able to post an illegally obtained recording citing "free speech/press".

Although in some states only one party has to consent to the recording. I believe that may have been the case in CA when the recording of Donald Sterling surfaced to ultimately force him to sell the Clippers.

Wait until the punitive damages are awarded. An appeal will certainly be filed. However, Hogan could double his award! I followed the case a bit. The former editor in chief Daulerio's testimony was so damaging to Gawker it seemed like he was on the take for the Hulk. I used to think their sites were entertaining. However, a change happened and it became activist-like only presenting one sided viewpoints. They also loved to shame anyone that didn't follow its agenda. I'm kinda glad they got slammed.

I'm hearing the Jury basically screwed Hogan by awarding him that insane amount of money. 15 million over what was being asked. Heard the Appeals court has already sided with Gawker if/when they do appeal.

I thought I read that in order for it to go to appeal, Gawker had to place the settlement money in escrow beforehand (state law). Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought I heard/read that somewhere.

Might be the basis for a reduced award, but not sure that's a basis for overturning the entire ruling.
