Discuss. My thoughts are all over the place on this. It's horrible, but the DA is overcharging. On the other hand, doing this to a legal minor will eventually lead to this outcome. Greek life as we know it at PSU is over. That's probably a good thing.

I read the whole timeline of the night. Sounds like they were in pure fear and denial and kept doubling down on dumb. Had they got some help after the first fall, it may have been a simple concussion.

College is so far removed from what I (and Ill assume most of you) experienced that is should be renamed.

Forget partying until your of age.....

You pretty much would have to have a consensual sex contract signed before any encounter which sounds like as much fun as just jerking it, unless of course you'd like to end up without counsel in front of a lynch mob and having your life destroyed......

I bet every single one of these assholes would get violently angry at someone who even suggested this was kind of gay:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -walk.html

And they'd insist the dinner club model of fraternity is gayer and more pussified than going through these rituals.

Yeah, frats suck. No self-awareness at the very time it is badly needed.

BTW, Dean Wormer was a dick but he was right.

Anytime you get a group of teenage/young adult males together in a group, stupid things are bound to happen, and it is in no way unique to frats. Do a google search for "[insert sports team or club name] hazing" and watch how much stuff comes up.

I agree, but at least sports teams have an older male coach as a buffer.

Or in the case of Penn State football, and older male coach as a predator.

K is correct, the days of Asher Roth College are over.

PSUs policy of encouraging the first two years at a branch existed party for this reason, to prevent
minors from getting exposed to an drunken environment they couldn't handle yet.

College sports hazing is pretty damn innocuous if it happens at all anymore. In 2000 mine consisted of singing a song and carrying some equipment. In HS there was the infamous atomic situp and the cockiest sophomores had to pass a CD from buttcheek to buttcheek. I shake my head when these silly rituals are turned into a big deal.

What is dangerous and scary is the drinking rituals that can lead to alcohol poisoning and death. And I'm fairly sure that is still quite rampant in the Greek life world.

Here's a list of hazing incidents in sports.

https://espn.go.com/otl/hazing/list.html

Quote:
Newtown H.S. (Conn.)
Wrestling
The team was forced to forfeit four matches after several team members were caught trying to initiate a freshman by dunking his head into a toilet bowl.

Centennial H.S. (Md.)
Soccer
Fourteen upper-class team members reportedly forced a dozen freshmen players to line up against a wall and hold their ankles as soccer balls were ferociously kicked at them in a ritual called "butts up."

Stevenson H.S. (Ill.)
Football
Officials suspended four players for so-called "atomic sit-ups" -- in which their faces met with the buttocks of other players -- and other humiliating acts. The players pleaded guilty to reduced charges of disorderly conduct.

now the only thing wrong with an atomic situp is that today, a kid will go cry to his parents who will then raise holy hell.
