Many school systems were smart enough to shift liability back to the parents. I'm not inclined to trust a flimsy device mass produced in China to prevent burned retinas. Hospitality in prime viewing zones are sold out, transportation folks are issuing warnings. Improper precautions and bad planning is like playing zone in NE.

I live in the path of totality, and apparently we're expecting up to 500k people to flock in for this thing. Hotels have been fully booked for a year.

They're calling for thunderstorms on Monday.

Dang, Old School, I just came in to start a thread but there you are!

Brothers and I are flying into SLC Saturday and then off to the centerline of the eclipse totality in the backwoods of Idaho, avoiding the crowds and major highways. Right now Wyoming is sweating it with clouds and T-storms in the forecast, but so far Idaho & Oregon are looking clear and hot for Monday. Fingers crossed.

Scoped it out a year ago and got our rooms for a fraction of current going rates (I've seen up to $ 1,100 a night  ) which of course is nuts, but I guess for some of these small town businesses this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Don't forget the specs or "you'll put your eye out!" 8-)

Reports that folks waited in lines for up to 7 hours to buy glasses confirms that Monday is going to be a wild & crazy day. National Transportation now saying millions of vehicles will be traveling into prime viewing spots and all construction zones and restricted lanes are to be cleared.

Or they could just make a pinhole viewer for free.

this will be the 2nd eclipse in my area in my lifetime. The first had heavy clouds. i cannot get excited about this unless this will cause a zombie apocalypse, witch burning or sacrifice of a sun god/emperor. Even then I will just wait for the news

I don't want to watch the thing's shadow on a box. I'll just take some quick glances here and there ;)

OK, that was pretty damn cool. Anyone else have a chance to be in the path?

I saved my eyes and watched it on NASA's site, which made me wish I was in the path of totality.

Watched from our deck, we were dead center in path of totality. The word awesome has lost its meaning but this was truly awesome. Darkness in middle of a sunny day. The cricket symphony erupted, they thought it was night. Like God threw a switch the light came back on.
