The New England Patriots have traded six-time Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for tight end Tim Wright and a fourth-round draft pick in 2015.

Seems like a pretty decent trade for the Bucs...Wright is a undersized TE (6'4 220) who was undrafted from Rutgers a season ago.

I really like the moves Lovie has made. If Mccown works out could be quite the surprise.

Also off topic, surprised it hasn't been posted. Pete Carrol fined $300K

Real curious what B2B thinks of this trade. I admired Pats run game, trading Mankins is going to put more pressure on 37 year old Tom Brady.

Why did #Patriots end up dealing Pro Bowl G Logan Mankins? They asked him to take a pay cut. He refused (as you’d expect). Became available https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/504651113878929408

How are the cheats so damned fortunate? I mean if this was the Steelers looking to trade a player that wouldn't take the pay cut it just ain't happening. It hasn't ever worked out as well as this trade did for the cheats. Fuck!

How exactly did this work out well? They just lost their best run blocking olineman and in return got a TE with potential...Mankins is a borderline HOF OG, Wright is a young guy that had an ok season with Tampa. He may well help in red zone but at what cost? If Pats cant run the ball as well, Brady will be forced to air it out alot more to a hobbled Gronk, and the dynamic duo of Edelman and Thompkins. Brady struggled mightly at times last season, it was the first time in a long time he couldnt carry his team. He needed a dominant run game and Pats had one. Losing an elite RT in Vollmer and when healthy one of the best OGs in football is interesting way of shoring the offenses' biggest strength.

Just that they were able to off load a huge cap hit and aging player while in return receiving a 4th RND draft pick in 2015 in addition a young TE with good upside potential. The pick by itself in combination with dropping your total cap hit by themselves is working out well IMO. Never happen for the Steelers. Couldn't trade Woodley away if their lives depended on it. Had to cut him. Most recent case for Steelers. Should I even mention Willie Colon? Oh, guess I just did. The one trade that they did mange (Holmes) was for a bucket of spit and a case of Coors Lite.

Brady is 37 years old. Cap space doesnt mean a damn thing unless you use it, they've had multiple chances to do so and havent.

Really you want to discuss poor signings and believe the Pats are the model to use? Adalius Thomas ring a bell? Roosevelt Colvin? The Haynesworth and Ocho cinco debacle? Brandon Lloyd? OOps we ignored our young TE was a huge liability Hernandez? Letting Welker walk, yeh how did that work for Brady and what did they get in return?

Contrary to popular belief not every move the Pats make is above the line and in fact looking at their drafts and FA signings I sometimes wonders if folks just refuse to acknowledge when they make mistakes because lord knows there are plenty of them.
