Jaguars running back Denard Robinson was "asleep or fatigued" when he crashed his car in a retention pond over the weekend, according to police.

Responding officers at the scene of the crash in Jacksonville, Fla., didn't think Robinson was intoxicated, and did not charge him with a DUI.

According to a crash report from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Robinson drove his Chevrolet Impala off the road and into a pond 4:20 a.m. Sunday, submerging the driver's side underwater. A female passenger was also in the car.

When police arrived at the scene, an officer knocked on the driver's side window; Robinson reportedly "opened his eyes and then went back to sleep."

The female passenger then "woke up and rolled down the window and said, 'What's up.'" The officer was able to help the female out of the car, but had to unbuckle Robinson and persuade him to leave the vehicle through the passenger's side. Robinson thought he was still on the road, according to the report.

Robinson later released a statement on the incident:

"I just wanted to let everyone know that I was involved in a single-car accident on Saturday night, and thankfully, everyone was safe and remained unharmed. I thank God every single day for the opportunities he has presented me with and I'm grateful every morning to wake up healthy. I should not have been driving that late or when I was that tired, but again, I'm just glad that everyone was safe. God Bless."
