Jimmy Smith will get no discipline but Ben got disciplined for no charges? You read that text of the Conduct policy... I can't see how what Ben did fits those parameters, most of which are geared to charges being filed and a disposition implying guilt being the result.

You want him to be busted for this, B2B?

Seriously?

This whole thing smacks of the Pouncey threads. We don't like Jimmy Smith because he's a Raven, so throw the book at him.

Even though from what I can see, he did nothing really wrong here. And what he did was WAY less serious than what we pretty much know Ben did, even if no charges were filed (and no, I am not saying he assaulted the girl...he pretty much did have drunken sex with her in the bathroom, though).

And if suspending Ben was a mistake, let's not keep duplicating the mistake by wrongfully spending others just because Ben was suspended.

I do not think he is healthy or other teams would jump at him.

Because Ben, like most conduct decisions, was purely PR driven. Ben got 6 games (reduced to 4) because that's what the mob, errr media, demanded.

A couple of points...more shitty journalism on Mike Pouncey. They state they don't know if he has passed his psych evaluation. The witness's in the recent case won't be deposed until later this week. Hard to imagine this being the end of it.

I won't link it up due to all the bullshit that other Steeler site has published...but apparently we have made an offer to J Finely...but he is looking for big coin as he has 10 million insurance payout on the way if he misses the first four games of this season.

That's a crazy policy that would allow him to sit on or turn-down offers to collect. I saw the argument might go that it destroyed his FA value, but that premium would have had to be huge to write that policy for a guy facing career-ending surgery. Although it's certainly possible someone screwed up and is now looking for a job.

I said it years ago, Ben would be the FIRST and LAST player to be suspended based on accusations alone.

I was right.

My point was: can't believe Ben was suspended based on the conduct policy as written. The NFL would have had a hell of a time making that case in court.

He was suspended.

We all need to get over it.

It seems like he has...and has turned his life around.

What good is it to keep rehashing it?

To highlight the inequity in Goodell's handling of player conduct issues and stoke the fires of hatred toward the Ginger Hammer.

Now I'm really mad. I'm going to go Google a picture of Roger Goodell and print it out just so I can draw devil horns on him, spit on the picture and light it on fire.

Goodell ain't going anywhere...the owners love him because the NFL has made money hand over fist since he took over.

And if you want to be mad at anyone for Ben, be mad at Art II. He wanted Ben suspended, and I think he was instrumental in Ben getting suspended. I know he sent the season ticket holders that "Despite Ben, we're still a good organization" letter. I believe with all my heart he wanted to trade Ben away, and Kevin Colbert saved us from Art II's fit of pique by setting the asking peice so high no one wanted him.

Still can't believe that letter ever got mailed. I may have written back with a fuck this noise sort of response.

If Ben would of been traded I would of hoped for a riot.

Didnt we come within one drive of winning the SB after that suspension? The severe "pissoffity"- from that suspension, the crazy media inspired rule changes after that Browns game, subsequent unwarranted Debo fines and the continued targeting of Steelers defenders by the league office provided the fuel for us to get to the SB. So in retrospect the only thing missing was that last win and no one would be rehashing the Bens suspension. As stated he's moved on and become a better man and teammate. Other players wont be punished like he was because

1. New CBA
2. Steelers pretty much signed off on the suspension
3. The cover up made it stink worse than the implied reality of what happened

Other teams are not going to take the high road at the expense of wins and the NFLPA would fight a suspension like that-- NOW!

You're not right. Rice will be suspended close to exhib season/regular season commence. He'll be the sacrificial lamb, but for goor reason. You can smell it coming. Especially after 5 ravens have been arrested.

The league will be looked down on even more if someone slides from Baltimoronland.

The NFL does have to make a case in court that's the point. The NFLPA agrees to give Goodell all the power. Crying about what happen 4 years ago is sour grapes oh that's not to mention.. Ben ended up leading the steelers to the Superbowl that same season.

Ben gave Goodell the opportunity to grandstand and take care of a lot of Roger's PR problems at the time. It wasn't and never was about the crime. It was all about the PR.

It would have been sweet as hell to win the title that year and we overcame a lot to get there, we just couldn't pull it off.

I'm really hoping we get to see those 30+ pages of texts between Belichick and Hernandez. That would be interesting.
